Student answer (Band 6.0)

As the technology and economy changed, entertainment industry was getting affected. People nowadays, tend to watch films and movies on the online platform than they used to before in theatres and cinemas. However, entertainment in theatres and cinemas is still vital most especially in terms of our economy and culture.

In today's generation, many online platform is now freely available. People used to watch films and movies in theatres and cinemas which was very different nowadays. Movies and series are now available online that they can just watch easily rather than going to places which would take time to travel. Moreover, watching in theatres and cinemas would cost a fortune for some people who wanted to enjoy and be entertained. For instance, Youtube and netflix has a lot of movies and series that people could watch whenever they want. Even just on the comfort of their home, these entertainment is freely availble.

On the other hand, to be able to watch in theatres and sinemas is a much more different experience. Having able to watch in a comfortable seats and massive screen is what it makes different. Since this has been the tradition of most people, it is still important that we should support these businesses in terms of watching films. A lot of the online platforms are now used to upload illegal films which could affect the entertainment industry in terms of their copyright. Watching movies legaly is vital in supporting our economy and preserving our culture.

In conclusion, change is constant in our lives most especially in terms of technology that affects how we used to do things than before. Most people may have changed in terms of watching films and movies. However we should also support our entertainment industry, which would help the economy and preserve our culture, by watching films and movies legally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your own position clear: online viewing is convenient and often cheaper, but cinemas remain valuable for the viewing experience and for supporting the industry. The examples of YouTube and Netflix help illustrate the first view, while illegal uploads and copyright provide a relevant reason for supporting cinemas and legal viewing. However, the economic and cultural importance named in the prompt is only partly explained. The discussion of culture is especially brief, and the claim that cinema-going is a tradition is not developed with a specific example. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how theatres contribute to employment or local economies and how they preserve or share cultural works.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The contrast between the second and third paragraphs is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some stronger control through clear paragraphing and progression. At times, however, connections are mechanical or the reference is unclear—for example, “these entertainment” does not clearly refer to the films and series just mentioned. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the main reasons. Use more precise referencing and make the final paragraph synthesise the economic, cultural, and experiential points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “online platform,” “massive screen,” “copyright,” and “preserving our culture.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “supporting our economy.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “watch,” “films and movies,” and “important,” and several choices or forms are inaccurate. For example, “cost a fortune” is too strong for the point that cinema can be expensive, while “freely available” does not fit all the services listed. Spelling errors such as “availble,” “sinemas,” and “legaly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise alternatives and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which would take time to travel” and a conditional structure in “who wanted to enjoy and be entertained.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, tense, and sentence construction prevent consistently accurate control. For example, “many online platform is” needs plural agreement, and “Having able to watch” is not a grammatical construction. The opening phrase “As the technology and economy changed” also uses awkward tense and article choices. Practise building complex sentences around accurate clause patterns, and check subject–verb agreement and verb forms. More error-free sentences would make your argument clearer and more fluent.
