Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people believe that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas have become less important because people can watch any entertainment venues they want online but others argue that theatres and cinemas still have vital importance both economically and culturally. In my opinion, both are crucial in their own ways.
On the one hand, there are advantages of online entertainment. people can watch their favourite dramas and movies whenever they want because they have easy access to digital platforms. For example, nowadays, many young people are using Netflix and many other kinds of stuffs like these for watching their shows. They can manage time according to their own preferences rather than waiting for cinemas' schedules. This saves time and money as well. people do not need to buy expensive tickets instead they have easy access to each digital platforms.
On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are also important. Theatres are contribute to the economy because they provide the opportunities for actors and directors to earn money. These are also important for nearby small businesses. However, cinemas provide a wide range of films and performances related to culture and people may appreciate their culture and traditions, they have chance to experience the actors' emotions as they are in front of them. For instance, they sit in front of large high quality screens and may feel the actors' expressions.
In conclusion, online platforms have easy access and prevent time from being wasted while cinemas and theatres are important as theatres are used for earning money and cinemas are important for our tadition and culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both sides and state a clear overall view in the opening: “both are crucial in their own ways.” The online section gives relevant benefits—convenience, flexible timing, and saving money—and the second body paragraph mentions employment and cultural experiences. However, the discussion is uneven: the economic point is briefly asserted, while the cultural explanation shifts between films, traditions, and seeing actors’ expressions without clearly distinguishing cinemas from live theatre. The example about large screens supports the cinema experience more than the cultural value of theatres. Develop each side with a specific explanation or example, and make your opinion more explicit about how the two forms complement one another. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for online entertainment, one for theatres and cinemas, and a conclusion. “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical, and ideas are not always connected precisely. For example, the sentence beginning “However, cinemas provide…” moves from theatres’ economic contribution to cultural films without explaining the contrast, and the following clause about appreciating culture is joined awkwardly to the point about actors’ emotions. Use clearer topic sentences and separate distinct ideas into sentences, with references that make clear whether you mean live theatre or cinema. This would make the progression smoother and the connections less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital platforms,” “schedules,” “economy,” “actors,” and “culture.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “actors’ emotions” and “high quality screens.” However, the range is limited in places, and several choices or collocations sound unnatural or imprecise, such as “any entertainment venues,” “kinds of stuffs,” and “easy access to each digital platforms.” “Theatres are contribute” also reflects an incorrect word form. Spelling is generally understandable, though “tadition” is an error. Aim for more precise terms and natural collocations, and distinguish vocabulary for live performance from vocabulary for films. This will make the discussion clearer and more appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a comparison using “rather than.” The main meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and basic grammar recur. For example, “Theatres are contribute” has an incorrect verb form, while “people do not need to buy expensive tickets instead…” needs clearer punctuation or a linking structure. In “cinemas provide… and people may appreciate their culture…, they have chance,” clauses are joined without a sound grammatical connection, and “they have chance” is missing an article. Capitalisation at the start of sentences is also inconsistent. Practise accurate verb patterns, articles, and sentence boundaries, then check longer sentences for complete, correctly linked clauses.
