Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this digital age, may people argue that now cinemas and theatre are no longer needed because people can watch movies and all sort of entertainment online while others critcs argue that theatres and cinemas are still importand for both culturally and economically. This essay will discuss both aspects before i will l share my opinion.
m the one hands, in past people go to the cinemas and theatre to spend their weekend and enjoy entertainment. One reason is that they could not have access to the interne easily, and cinemas and theatres are the only way they can watch their favorite movies. This entertainment industries also benefits economically as well as culturally. In some cultures going to cinemas become a norm and people find it more pleasurble to spend quality time with their loved ones.
On the other hands, with the rise in technology in this digital age people have easily access to internet. They can watch any movie or dramas by sitting in their home. They do not need to spend money to buy tickets or wait for the weekend to watch their favorite movies. The advantage of watching in their comfort zone at any time reduced the need for thetares and cinemas.
In my opinion, i firmly agree with the statement that nowadays we do not need cinemas and theatres as we can watch whatever we want easily on our laptops and phones while sitting in homes, or travelling. We always have access to internet and on one click we get to watch anything around the world. Although the fact that it may effect ecomically or culturally can not be ignored. But the media industry can overcoe thsi drawback by other means. The access to internet in this growing age of technology descreses the need of thetares and cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for online entertainment, so the response is relevant to the task. The points about convenience, avoiding ticket costs, and the cultural role of cinema-going provide a basic foundation. However, the two views are not developed equally: the case for theatres’ economic importance is asserted rather than explained, and the cultural point is limited to spending time with loved ones. Your opinion is clear, but the claim that cinemas are no longer needed is not fully reconciled with your acknowledgement that they have economic and cultural value. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example, and clarify why your preferred view outweighs the opposing benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak, and several linking phrases are inaccurate or repetitive, including “On the one hands” and “On the other hands.” The conclusion repeats the convenience argument rather than bringing the two sides together, while “Although the fact that…” creates an unclear connection to the preceding point. Use accurate transitions, make each paragraph develop one central idea in a logical sequence, and ensure pronouns and references clearly identify what they refer to. A more purposeful conclusion would summarise the comparison as well as your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary such as “digital age,” “access to internet,” “entertainment,” and “culturally and economically,” which makes the subject clear. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “watch,” “movies,” and “cinemas and theatres.” Noticeable spelling errors—such as “importand,” “pleasurble,” “ecomically,” and “thetares”—also reduce accuracy. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, for example “comfort zone” and “on one click.” Build a wider set of topic-specific terms and check spelling carefully. More precise collocations, such as describing cinemas as “venues” or discussing their “economic contribution,” would help express the ideas more clearly and flexibly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a concession beginning “Although.” These attempts show some range, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. Examples include “people have easily access,” “in past people go,” and “the advantage … reduced the need,” where verb forms or sentence structure are not controlled. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and the run-on construction “Although the fact that it may effect… But…”. Practise accurate present and past forms, subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. Shorter, carefully checked sentences would improve clarity while you build control of more complex patterns.
