Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays few people argue that after the technological advancements, cinemas and theatres are of little significance as people can get entertainment from online sites whereas others believe that cinemas and theatres are still valuable for economy and culture. Personally, I support the later view of cinemas and theatres having significance in present times, but I have discussed both the viewpoints in my essay.
Firstly, Some people argue that entertainment recieved online is more convenient. This is because after the digitalisation and particularly launch of online streaming platfroms such as Netflix and Amazon prime etc, people find it quite easier to watch their desired shows or movies at anytime of the day, rather than travelling to theatres and watching shows which are only displayed by the management. For this reason, people think that as if technology has made entertainment that much flexible, so people can stream their desired shows while sitting in their living rooms, and therefore they percieve cinemas and theatres as of little use in present times.
On the other hand, theatres and cinemas have socio-economic significance. Because not only these entertainment places provides local people with employment, but also serves to promote our local culture through stage plays. For instance, theatres organise live performances which potray the cultural ways of living in that society, through display of costumes and specific dialect used by the actors. These plays eventually allow people who live in urbanised societies to get cultural awareness, so that cultural norms can be protected even in modern societies, apart from this the job opportunities provided by these theatres ensures lesser local unemployemnt and decent amount of incomes for people employed, which help people enjoy better living standards too.
In my opinion, although online entertaiment provides people with grater flexibility to stream their favourite shows, but the cultural preservance and economic stablity ensured by the cinemas and theatres is of greater value. For this reason, I beleive that cinemas and theatres will never get irrelevant as they provide more lively and entertaining environment for locals to enjoy and learn about their traditional values.
To conclude, I strongly believe that cinemas and theatres will always be in trend regardless of technological advancements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both views and make your own position clear: you support the continuing importance of cinemas and theatres. The online-entertainment paragraph explains convenience and choice, while the opposing view is supported with relevant points about employment and cultural awareness. The example of live plays presenting costumes and dialects helps make the cultural argument concrete. This meets the task well, though some claims are broad rather than fully explored—for example, the conclusion that these venues “will never get irrelevant” is asserted more than demonstrated. Develop the economic point with a specific example of jobs or local spending, and explain more precisely what live venues offer that online viewing cannot. This would make the support more consistently convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your position, separate body paragraphs present the two views, and a conclusion restates your opinion. Signposting such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” makes the structure easy to follow, and ideas within the main paragraphs generally develop in a logical order. However, some linking is mechanical or overloaded. The sentence beginning “Because not only…” continues into several connected ideas, and “apart from this” introduces another point without a clear break. The final paragraph also repeats the position already stated in the introduction. Use more varied, precise transitions, divide long chains of ideas into clearer sentences, and ensure each paragraph has a focused central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “online streaming platforms,” “socio-economic significance,” “cultural awareness,” and “employment.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and the meaning is generally clear. However, attempts at more formal or less common vocabulary sometimes lead to inaccurate word choice, spelling, or collocation: “cultural preservance,” “economic stablity,” and “greater value” in this context would benefit from more natural phrasing. There are also repeated references to “cinemas and theatres” and “people,” which limit flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than choosing a more elaborate word simply for formality, and proofread spelling carefully. Alternatives such as “cultural preservation” and “economic stability” would strengthen the expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses and paired constructions such as “not only…but also.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the range is sufficient to express comparisons and reasons. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly in agreement and sentence construction. For example, “these entertainment places provides” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “not only… but also serves” does not maintain a parallel structure. The opening of the same paragraph, “Because not only…,” is also an incomplete construction as written. In the final opinion sentence, “although… but” combines two contrasting structures unnecessarily. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and building parallel clauses, and break long sentences into manageable units to improve control.
