Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some argue that in this digital era, the significance of theatres and cinemas has decreased because all programmes are available on online platforms, while others think that these have economical and cultural importance. In my view, theaters and cinemas are prominent as they provide real experiences with social values.
On the one hand, people believe that due to the advent of digital platforms, people can watch entertainment programmes through online platforms. Nowadays, OTT release is available for movies and live telecast for stage programmes, which is more comfortable and cost-effective. People do not need to wait for the tickets, no need to worry about parking vehicles and also can save time and money for commute. Additionally, it is so consumer-friendly; they can watch at their convenient time and they can pause and forward, and they can watch it repeatedly. For example, nowadays, people subscribe Netflix and Amazon Prime video to enjoy their favourite shows and movies with their loved ones.
However, enjoying films, concert and dramas at theaters and cinemas give wonderful experience to the audience, which allows social gathering and artists can receive reviews directly from the people. Moreover, theatres and cinemas provides 3D visual impacts and Dolby sound system which brings the audience to another level of enjoyment. Consequently, more people urge to watch the films and shows on theatres and cinemas which makes more profit on its owners and also creates more jobs. Stage programmes based on festivals and celebrations also teaches us social and cultural values through the stories and past events. Therefore, people and I believe that theatres and cinemas are essential part of the community to enhance cultural values as well as it creates more income.
In conclusion, some argue that due to the technological development, the importance of cinemas and theatres are diminished, whereas others opine that these are still significant both economically and culturally. I believe that by using cinemas and theatres , audience can experience real life situations and it also benefits economically and culturally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both perspectives and state a consistent opinion: cinemas and theatres remain important because they offer shared experiences and cultural and economic benefits. The online-viewing case is supported with practical advantages such as convenience, lower costs, and the ability to pause or replay content; the opposing case includes audience interaction, employment, and cultural learning. These relevant points and examples give the response clear development. Some claims, however, are broad rather than fully explained—for instance, the link between theatre attendance and “more profit” or job creation could be illustrated or qualified. The cultural value of stage programmes is also asserted more than explored. Developing these points with a specific example or clearer reasoning would make the discussion more fully persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: the introduction presents the debate and your view, the two body paragraphs discuss opposing positions, and the conclusion restates your opinion. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Within paragraphs, ideas generally move in a sensible order, from online convenience to the benefits of live venues. At times, however, linking is somewhat mechanical, with several sentences beginning “Additionally,” “Moreover,” or “Therefore.” The long list of online conveniences could be grouped more smoothly, and the final body paragraph shifts quickly from audience experience to profits, jobs, and cultural values. More varied transitions and clearer links between these points would improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “digital platforms,” “social gathering,” “cultural values,” and “cost-effective,” and your meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “3D visual impacts” and “Dolby sound system.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “economical importance” would be better expressed as “economic importance,” “OTT release is available” is awkward, and “urge to watch” does not convey the intended idea naturally. Repetition of “people,” “watch,” and “theatres and cinemas” also limits flexibility. Aim to use precise collocations and vary references to venues and audiences; this will make the vocabulary sound more controlled and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses with “because” and “which,” and most sentences communicate the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms. For example, “theatres and cinemas provides” should be “provide,” and “Stage programmes … also teaches us” should be “also teach us.” The phrase “films, concert and dramas” needs consistent plural forms, while “an essential part” requires an article in “are essential part.” There are also awkward sentence constructions, such as “People do not need to wait for the tickets, no need to worry,” where the parallel structure is incomplete. Check agreement and articles, and make list structures grammatically parallel.
