Student answer (Band 6.0)
People have different opinions to watch movies on online platforms or to experience at cinema screens. While some believe that cinemas are no longer crucial. Others argue that theatre are still significant both economically and culturally. In my opinion, although both perspectives have their merits. I believe that watching movies in cinemas give more realistic and thrilling experiences.
On one hand, those who support to watch all entertainment on online websites argue that they get same experience in their television. This is largely because people can see any entertainment source in one click of their screens with their family and closed ones. Furthermore, they watch it any time of the day and pause the movie scenes to watch it later after complete their crucial works. For example, there are several websites like Netflix, Amazon prime, and Disney hotstar where people can watch any type entertainment films. Consequently, purchasing subscriptions from these platforms help individuals to checkout upcoming films.
On other hand, supporters of theatres and cinemas believe that these are still significant both economically and culturally. One major reason for this is that it encourages people to have realistic experience by sitting on their premium seats. For instance, cinemas like PVR provide high quality seats with massive screen in 4k quality. Therefore, individuals purchase soft drinks and snacks while watching their shows.
In conclusion, although both perspectives have their own merits. I believe that multiplexes are still crucial and it is convincing because people are enthusiastic to experience the movies in large screens.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views and state a clear preference for cinema-going, so the response addresses the main parts of the prompt. The online-viewing paragraph gives relevant reasons—convenience, watching with family, and pausing a film—and names streaming services. However, the economic and cultural importance of cinemas is not really explained: the cinema paragraph focuses mainly on the viewing experience, seats, and buying snacks, rather than showing wider economic effects or cultural value. Your opinion that cinemas offer a more realistic and thrilling experience is clear, but it is repeated rather than developed with a specific example or fuller reasoning. Develop each side more evenly and explain explicitly how cinemas contribute economically and culturally.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The sequence is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On one hand,” “On other hand,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the discussion. This coherent arrangement is a strength. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction instead of drawing the discussion together. Within paragraphs, connections between claims could be clearer—for example, the move from premium seats to buying snacks does not fully explain the cinemas’ broader economic importance. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make each example explicitly support the point it follows.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “online platforms,” “subscriptions,” “premium seats,” and “massive screen.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “realistic and thrilling experiences.” However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make the expression less natural: “watch movies on online platforms,” “closed ones,” “checkout upcoming films,” and “any type entertainment films.” Some terms are also repeated, particularly “significant” and “experience.” Aim for more precise, natural combinations and check word forms and spelling. For instance, “cinema-going experience” or “streaming services” would express the topic more idiomatically, while varied terms for audiences and cultural value would broaden your range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a subordinate clause beginning “This is largely because” and a sentence explaining that viewers can pause films. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur in both sentence formation and basic grammatical patterns. For example, “While some believe that cinemas are no longer crucial” is a fragment, and “although both perspectives have their merits” is also left incomplete in the introduction and conclusion. There are agreement and verb-form problems in “theatre are” and “watching movies in cinemas give,” as well as an incorrect infinitive pattern in “after complete their crucial works.” Practise joining dependent clauses to complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms when editing.
