Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this digital era, A number of people argue that theatres and cinemas have lost there importance beacuse in this digital era people can watch all the entertainment online. Wheras some people advocate that theatres and cinemas have a significant impact on economy as well as on culture. In this essay I will discuss both views that how these views have there own significance.

To beging with, the rapid advancement in technology has significantly influenced various aspects of human life and one of them is easy access to entertainment. There are number of websites and applications which allow free access to watch movies while the person is sitting at home. People find this more convenient and economical. For instance, watching a movie in theatres and cinema require a ticket which can be costly and also there is a need to book your ticket before the show. Moreover, it also includes the cost of transportation to reach cinema or theatre which makes people relactant to spend money on physically going to cinemas and theatres.

In contrast, people who are in support of cinemas and theartres argue that these are representer of culture and essential for economic aspects. Premarily cinemas and theatres bring community closer. People tend to enjoy going out with family and interaction with other people. Some theatres promote cultural show which is an assest for up coming generation. Furthermore, not only these have cultural impact but also cinemas and theatres are hub for economic activities. People spend money to buy ticket which creates revenue not only for an individual but also for governmet revenue . And an other aspect is job creation, many people who are associated with cinemas directly or indirectly earn their income from these sort of entertainments. If this trend declines people working in these wil lose their jobs .

In conclusion, the trend of cinemas and theatres may have reduced due to online availablity of entertainment yet these have a significant impact on culture as well as on economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the discussion: online viewing is presented as convenient and less costly, while cinemas and theatres are linked to community, culture, revenue, and employment. Your conclusion also indicates that, despite online entertainment, these venues remain significant. However, the task asks for your own opinion, and this is only implied rather than stated clearly; the introduction says you will discuss both views but does not identify which you support. Some points are relevant but under-developed, such as the claim that cultural shows benefit future generations, which would be stronger with a specific example or explanation. State your position directly and extend the main reasons with concrete support to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The contrast between the arguments is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some linking is mechanical, and ideas within the second body paragraph are crowded together: cultural value, social interaction, revenue, and employment are introduced in quick succession. The opening also repeats “in this digital era,” while the conclusion largely restates the introduction. Group related points more deliberately, use clearer references between sentences, and develop a smoother progression from each claim to its explanation or example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “rapid advancement in technology,” “convenient and economical,” “community,” “revenue,” and “job creation.” These choices help communicate both the practical and cultural arguments. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “beacuse,” “relactant,” “theartres,” and “representer,” and some expressions are unnatural, such as “an asset for up coming generation” and “hub for economic activities.” Repetition of “cinemas and theatres” and “people” also limits flexibility. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for discussing cultural institutions and economic effects; this will make your ideas sound more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “while,” “which,” and “if,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some sentence patterns are effective, such as “People find this more convenient and economical.” However, errors in sentence construction and punctuation recur. For example, “watching a movie in theatres and cinema require a ticket” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “In conclusion, the trend…” needs spacing after the comma. The opening sentence also has inconsistent capitalization after “In this digital era,” and several long sentences would benefit from clearer clause boundaries. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence to ensure its structure is complete and controlled.
