Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern era, some people believe that cinemas and theatres are not significantly important as audience can watch all entertainment content online. In contrast, other people argue that these traditional entertainment platforms are still beneficial for country's economy and culture. I firmily believe that theatres and cinemas are still important for economical growth and cultural awareness.

Theatres and cinemas allow people to spend some time togather. Families or friends can enjoy watching a movie on big screen on weedends, special occusions such as EID. These platforms contribute to grow a country's economy as well as native people especially children can learn about their culture through traditional stories played on these platforms. For instance, Heer ranjha is a foke tale of punjab which offers a glimps into the culture of old punjab, audience can experience a traditional punjabi life.

Whereas, some people argue that cinemas and theatres are outdated now, as some people find it more convinient to watch movies online on their mobile phones or television. For example, some people prefer watching film on television in their home while setting on sofa without leaving their comfort zone or even while doing some other home chores. Furthermore, these apps are inexpensive or even free to use therefore viewers prefer these apps rather than spending money on cinema's tickets.

In conclusion, i strongly believe that cinemas and theatres are still very important as they provide entertainment as well as cultural awareness to their audience, also participate in economical growth of a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: cinemas and theatres remain important for economic growth and cultural awareness. The cultural example of the Punjabi folk tale Heer Ranjha is relevant and helps illustrate your point. The response also explains the convenience and lower cost of online viewing. However, the economic contribution of cinemas is asserted rather than explained, and the benefits of shared viewing are only briefly developed. The discussion of online entertainment could also be more balanced by acknowledging what audiences gain beyond convenience and price. To strengthen the response, extend each main idea with a clear explanation or a specific example, and make the comparison between the two views more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting cinemas and theatres, a paragraph presenting the opposing view, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Whereas,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships between ideas. This organisation is effective, though some connections feel mechanical, particularly the shift into the opposing view with “Whereas.” The first body paragraph also moves quickly from socialising to economic benefits and then cultural learning, without fully showing how these points connect. Use clearer topic sentences and develop one central idea at a time; vary linking methods and use pronouns or repeated key terms carefully to make relationships between claims more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cultural awareness,” “traditional entertainment platforms,” “comfort zone,” and “contribute to” an economy. The example of a “folk tale” also gives the discussion some specificity. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “firmily,” “togather,” “convinient,” and “economical growth.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “contribute to grow a country's economy” and “traditional stories played on these platforms.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “contribute to economic growth” and “stories shown on screen.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “Whereas” and a sentence with “as” explaining why some people watch online. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “as audience can watch” needs an article or plural form, and “allow people to spend some time togather” would be more accurate as “allow people to spend time together.” The sentence beginning “For instance” joins two independent ideas with a comma, creating a run-on sentence. There are also issues with sentence construction in “contribute to grow” and “while setting on sofa.” Practise accurate clause boundaries, articles, and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
