Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that theatres and cinemas are no longer crucial as individual can watch all the entertainment they want online. However, others people argued that theatres and cinemas are still beneficial both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own view, which is that both sides have equally valid arguments.

From one perspective, movie theatres are no longer significant because people can easily watched through various website at home without moved at cinema hall. For example,

My brother always bought Netflix as per month to watch any movie without moving to theatres. As a result, it helps to save time and money instead of travelling to theatres which leads our more time.

From another perspective, theaters and cinemas are still important because people can experience the movie by staying at big screen TV cinema halls and also people can watch the movie which was newly launched at theatre. For example, In Nepal, people always moved to theatre to watch new-new movie with their family, friends and closed one.As a consequence, they can experience to meet with the actor and actress who roled as hero and heroine in movie at hall.

From my perspective, theatres and cinemas are still most significant both economically and culturally because i can experience the whole journey about movie at theatre. While watching movies at theatre, i can get extra knowledge about norms and values which is very important at society. For example, Me and my mother moved to theatre to watch newly launched movie and suddenly we meet the famous actress and click photos together to make memories with favorite one. This may result in our journey while watching movies at theatres.

In conclusion, cinemas and theatres are crucial because it help to show the love towards the movie and experience the whole scene. However, they are no longer significant because people can easily watch whatever they liked by staying at home. Although they both have equal valid arguments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state an opinion, so the response is relevant to the task. The online-view paragraph gives a clear practical reason—saving time and money—and the Nepal example supports the social appeal of cinema. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says both sides are equally valid, while the later paragraph says cinemas are “most significant.” The economic importance mentioned in the prompt is also not explained, and cultural benefits such as learning about “norms and values” need clearer development. The conclusion repeats both sides but does not resolve your position. Make your opinion consistent and explain each main point with a specific, relevant reason or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a paragraph giving your perspective, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “From one perspective” and “From another perspective” helps readers follow the discussion. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, and the final paragraph repeats the opposing points without clearly bringing them together. Some references are unclear, particularly “This may result in our journey,” which does not show how it connects to the example. The first supporting paragraph also breaks off after “For example,” before continuing. Use complete, focused paragraphs, connect each example explicitly to its main idea, and make the conclusion state a clear final position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “economically,” “culturally,” “norms and values,” and “newly launched,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “individual can watch,” “bought Netflix as per month,” “closed one,” and “roled as hero and heroine.” Repetition of “important,” “significant,” and “movie” also limits precision. Build a more accurate set of expressions for discussing access, cultural value, and the film industry, and check whether words naturally combine in English. More precise vocabulary would make your examples clearer and your argument more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because,” “which,” and “while.” This gives the response some structural variety, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur in both basic forms and longer sentences. For example, “people can easily watched” uses the wrong verb form, while “it help” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “a big screen TV cinema halls” and “one.As a consequence.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise accurate verb patterns and agreement first, then proofread longer sentences for articles, punctuation, and complete clause structure.
