Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is a growing belief that in the modern age, through online people can watch all types of entertainment according to their choice and they do not have to go for theatres and cinemas, whereas some people think that theatres and cinemas are still important for cultural and economical benefits. This essay will examine both views before arguing that theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online becuase it is cost effective and it provides mental satisfaction.
There are some truth in the fact that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. According to the conventional systems, theatres and cinemas used to share a percentage of their profit with the producers who put money for the film or the show. And people used to go theatres and cinemas to enjoy different shows and movies along with their friends and families. It is a place where people can nurture cultural activity. For example, national anthem is played in many theatres in Bangladesh, which has a significant impact to preserve our culture. However, after the availability of online platforms for recreational activity people are less concern about these factors.
Online recreational facilities have made a significant change in our perspective. Going to a cinema hall is a hectic process. People have to buy tickets through waiting in a long line and they have to face traffic on their way back and forth to home. On the other hand, one can simply enjoy anything online by seating in their house with the family. And it cost less than going out for a movie or any perticular show. Thats why theatres and cinemas are no longer import

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You introduce both perspectives and state a clear preference for online entertainment, giving cost and convenience as reasons. The paragraph on cinemas also includes relevant economic and cultural points, such as sharing profits with producers and the national anthem example in Bangladesh. However, the discussion is only partial: the economic benefit is briefly described, and the cultural example is not fully explained. Your own view is asserted more than developed, and the response ends mid-sentence (“no longer import”), leaving the conclusion and final reasoning incomplete. To strengthen the response, explain the effects of each point and give a complete conclusion that directly compares the two views.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting the continued importance of cinemas, and a paragraph favouring online entertainment. Linking expressions such as “whereas,” “For example,” and “On the other hand” help signal contrasts and examples. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with several ideas joined by “And,” and the final paragraph stops abruptly, so the argument does not reach a clear ending. The reference in “these factors” is also broad, making it less clear which cultural or economic benefits are meant. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each supporting detail explicitly to the main claim, and complete the final paragraph with a concise conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “online platforms,” “recreational activity,” “cultural activity,” and “preserve our culture,” which allows you to discuss both sides of the question. Some less common expressions are attempted, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “through online,” “share a percentage of their profit,” and “by seating in their house.” Spelling errors such as “becuase,” “perticular,” and “Thats” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for standard collocations and check spelling, especially in key claims and the final sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “whereas” and a conditional-style construction with “one can simply enjoy.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “There are some truth” should use a plural noun or singular verb, and “people are less concern” needs an adjective form. “It cost less” also does not maintain the appropriate present-tense form. Some sentences begin with “And,” and the final sentence is incomplete, which affects control of punctuation and sentence boundaries. Practise checking agreement and verb forms, and ensure every sentence is complete.
