Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays digital technology is becoming increasingly widespread around the world.Certain people argue that in this digital age, threatres and cinemas are no longer significant because mostly individuals watch entertainment such as, movies, serials, and other kind of Youtube videos online at home on their smartphones and other devices. However, others believe, that threatres and cinemas are still crucial both economically and culturally. This essay will examine both views and from my perspective in today's world many people use several types of social media platforms to watch different types of entertainments.

To begin with, one of the aspects that people often talk about their social media accounts they use on their smartphones at home. For instance, certain people use Youtube for watching videos about cooking and watching movies as well. Furthermore, it should also be noted that many individuals watch different types of Pakistani, Indian, and Turkish drama serials on Youtube and they watch Ticktok videos for fun and entertainment too.

In contrast, there are some people who deny this and think that theatres and cinemas are still crucial they argue that threatres and cinemas play pivotals roles in both economically and culturally such as, they creates jobs for actors, technicians, ticket staff, cleaners,

and many others. They bring customers for nearby restuarants, shops and hotels, which supports the local economy. Moreover, they preserve and promote national traditions, stories, and languages. They give people a social media experience at home they cannot take.In my opinion, in today's world mostly people like watching online funny serials, comdey shows alone and sometimes with their family members. Especially women also like watching

online cooking videos at home and making different types of cuisines with the help of watching online videos.

In conclusion, in today's world technology is going rapidly many people argue that they really love watching online entertainment at home without going outside nevertheless, others believe that threatres and cinemas are still important because they give many jobs opportunities to people and present our cultures and traditions globally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both sides by describing online viewing and the economic and cultural roles of cinemas, and you include an opinion. However, the discussion is only partial: the online-viewing paragraph mainly lists YouTube and TikTok content rather than explaining why this makes theatres less important, while the opposing view receives more specific reasons, such as employment and support for nearby businesses. Your position is also not consistently clear. The introduction says you will examine both views, but your stated perspective focuses on people watching social media, and the conclusion repeats both sides without clearly deciding which view you support. Develop each side with a reasoned explanation and a relevant example, then state and maintain a direct opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, separate discussion paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “In contrast” and “In conclusion” help readers recognise the stages of the essay. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven. The first body paragraph lists types of online content without connecting them clearly to the claim that cinemas are less important. The second paragraph shifts from economic and cultural benefits to online entertainment and women’s cooking videos, making its central focus difficult to follow. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “they” in “They give people a social media experience” are unclear. Group related ideas together and use transitions to show how each example supports the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “digital technology,” “local economy,” “national traditions” and “languages,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to use more formal expressions such as “crucial” and “preserve and promote.” However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “different types,” “watching” and “entertainment,” and several inaccurate or unnatural choices reduce precision: “social media experience” does not fit the intended contrast with a cinema experience, and “jobs opportunities” is not the natural phrase. Spelling errors such as “threatres,” “restuarants” and “comdey” are noticeable. Build a more precise range of cinema-related vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “one of the aspects that people often talk about their social media accounts” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “they creates jobs” has subject–verb disagreement. Other errors include “many others. They” (missing sentence spacing) and comma placement that breaks phrases, as in “such as, they…” The opening also runs sentences together without spaces after full stops. Practise building accurate sentences with one clear main clause and subordinate clauses, and proofread agreement, punctuation and sentence boundaries.
