Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that in the digital era, theater and cinemas do not have the importance as they had before. Nowadays people can watch all kind of entertainment they want online. Others have a different opinion, they say that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. I largely agree with the latter.

Let's discuss the opinion of first group of people who says digital age is providing entertainment online. Their point is right. People can watch every TV show, drama, movie, or any other entertainment show while staying at thier home. And this thing has changed the shift from live theater to online entertaining shows. It is beneficial as I don't have to visit cinema for watching a movie which is available online and I can easily watch it on Television or laptop. For instance, I love Disney shows and they all are available on streaming platforms. Whenever I feel, I need to watch one, I open my laptop and watch it.

On the other hand side, there are people who still enjoy watching live theaters like dramas, comedy shows etc. And they also prefer watching a film in cinema. The reason is watching these shows live has different kind of experience. You not only visit the theater but you also made some good memories, interact with strangers and build good connections. Apart from that experience is totally different there. I would like to reference to my last week, I went to watch a short film directed by my colleague. I watched multiple other films by other directors and I also got a chance to hear about their story in depth after watching all the short films. I made new friends. And there was a ticket everyone had to pay to watch those short films. A proportion of that payment went to the film industry and helped grow the economy as well. In this way, I think we are encourging new talent and supporting our film industry too.

I am a kind of person who enjoys both, either watching movies at home or visiting cinema. But I prefer watching a special movie with my favourite people in a cinema.

In conclusion, both opinions are good. People can entertain themselves either from the comfort of their home or by visiting a live theater. It totally depends on their choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for the continuing importance of theatres and cinemas, particularly in the opening and through your example of attending your colleague’s short-film screening. The discussion of online entertainment is relevant, but it mainly explains convenience and access; it could more fully consider how streaming affects cinemas’ economic or cultural role. The live-event paragraph offers personal support for social and cultural value and mentions ticket revenue supporting the film industry, though the economic point would be stronger with a clearer explanation of its wider impact. Your conclusion restates that people have a choice, but does not fully reinforce your view that venues remain important. Develop these less fully explored points to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrast between “On the other hand” and the earlier discussion helps readers follow the argument, and the personal example gives the second main paragraph a clear focus. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise, such as “Let’s discuss the opinion of first group” and “In this way,” while repeated “And” openings make parts of the prose feel list-like. The final paragraph also repeats the idea of personal choice without clearly connecting it back to your stated preference. Use more varied transitions and make the relationship between each example and the main claim explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic and communicate your examples, including “streaming platforms,” “live theaters,” “film industry,” and “encouraging new talent.” There are also attempts at topic-specific phrasing, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “online entertaining shows,” “different kind of experience,” and “a ticket everyone had to pay.” Spelling slips such as “thier” and “encourging” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “watch,” “people,” and “experience” limits flexibility, and some expressions are too general to convey your meaning precisely. Build a wider set of natural collocations for entertainment, audience experience, and economic contribution, and check spelling during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the relative clause in “a short film directed by my colleague” and the conditional structure “I don’t have to visit cinema…”. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the first group of people who says” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “you also made some good memories” shifts tense in a general statement. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in “visit cinema” and “watching these shows live has different kind of experience.” Some sentence openings with “And” create fragments or loosely connected clauses. Review agreement, tense consistency, and article use, then combine related ideas with accurate complex sentences.
