Student answer (Band 5.0)

THERE'S AN ONGOIND DEBATE ABOUT WHETHER IN THE DIGITAL AGE, THE THEATRES AND CINEMAS ARE UNIMPORTANT AS INDIVIDUALS CAN RECALL EVERYTHING THROUGH ONLINE PLATFORMS OR IT IS STILL ESSENTIAL IN TERMS OF THE ECONOMY AND CULTURE. IN MY OPINION, CINEMAS PLAYS AN EXCITING ROLE IN EVERYONE'S LIFE BECAUSE INDIVIDUALS CAN WATCH THE FILMS EVEN BEFORE IT COMES OUT ON ONLINE.

TO BEGIN WITH, THEATRES IS AN PLACE WHERE VIEWERS CAN WATCH FILMS ON HUGE SCREEN BY BOOKING THE SITS AT THE CINEMA HALL. THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE TO COME OUT IN ONLINE PLATFORMS OFTEN BOOK SITS AT THE HALL TO ENJOY THE MOVIE BY EATING POPCORNS BUT FOR SOME KIND OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO DON'T LIKE SPENDING MONEY ON FILMS THEY MIGHT WAIT TILL ONLINE PLATFORMS IS AVAILABLE. INVESTING ON THEATRES AND CINEMAS FILMS ARE HIGHLY OVER COSTING EVEN THOUGH THAT MANY INDIVIDUALS PREFER WATCHING IN THEATRES WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILIES.

FURTHERMORE, THE CINEMAS ARE MAINLY ON THOSE PLACES WHERE POPULATION IS SIGNIFICANTLY LARGE THAN OTHER AREAS WHICH HELPS TO ATTRACH MORE ATTENTION. THE COST OF MAKING ONE SINGLE FILM COSTS MORE THAN A MILLION SO CHARGING LITTLE BIT HIGH AMOUNT IS VALID IF THE FILM IS WORTH IT. IN THAT WAY INDIVIDUALS THEATRES FEES CAN BECOME PROFITABLE FINANCE TO SUPPORT IT ECONOMICALLY. LASTLY, TALKING ABOUT HOW IT SUPPORTS THE CULTURAL IS BY MAKING RELATED MOVIES ABOUT IT AND GIVING VIEWER THE RECOGNIZABLE INFORMATION.

IN CONCLUSION, THEATRES AND CINEMAS ARE BOTH IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You give a clear general opinion that cinemas remain important, and you mention both economic and cultural value. However, the task asks you to discuss the view that online entertainment makes theatres and cinemas less important as well as the opposing view. The online side is only briefly touched on through people waiting for films to appear online, and the cultural argument—“making related movies about it”—is unclear and not explained with a relevant example. Most of the response focuses on cinema attendance and costs, so the task is addressed only partially and the ideas remain limited. The response is also two words below the required minimum. To improve, explain both viewpoints directly, develop your cultural point, and support each main idea with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “TO BEGIN WITH,” “FURTHERMORE,” and “LASTLY” help signal the order of points. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the first body paragraph moves from booking seats to online availability and then to film investment without clearly showing how these points connect. The second paragraph combines cinema locations, production costs, profitability, and culture, making its central focus unclear. Some linking is also mechanical. Group related ideas into separate paragraphs, use clearer references, and explain the relationship between each claim and the task question.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “online platforms,” “population,” “economically,” and “cultural,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, sometimes making the reader work to understand the point. Examples include “recall everything” for watching entertainment, “over costing,” “profitable finance,” and “recognizable information.” There are also spelling errors such as “ONGOIND” and “ATTRACH,” and repeated use of “individuals” and “films.” Aim for more precise, natural expressions and check spelling. For instance, describe cinemas as “venues,” say films are “available to stream,” and refer to “revenue” rather than “profitable finance.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast between people who attend cinemas and those who wait for online releases. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “CINEMAS PLAYS,” “THEATRES IS AN PLACE,” and “online platforms is available,” where subject–verb agreement and article use are incorrect. The opening sentence also has an unclear structure, while “the cost of making one single film costs” repeats the subject and verb pattern awkwardly. Work on agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and build longer sentences from a clear main clause. Proofreading each sentence for its subject and verb would improve accuracy.
