Student answer (Band 5.5)

In contemporary societies, indiviuals go to theatres and cinemas for entertainment purpose. It is contentious issue whether theatres and cinemas no loger imperative as individuals can watch all the entertainment they want online or theatres and cinemas are still vital for economically and culrally. This eassay will not only dicuss both the view points but my opinion will also be highlighted while concluding this.

one compelling argument in favour of cinemas and theatre do not important for long time since people can watch all the entertainment they want online is that indiviuals save their money. They spend their money on theatres and cinemas but movie ticket to costly rather than online platform when individuals spend their time for watch movie. For exmaple, college students prefer to use ott platforms in stead of theatres and cinemas for entertainment perpose due to ott platforms cheapest than theatres therefore cinemas are no loger important. Thus, cinemas and theatres are becoming less important because online streaming platforms provide cheaper and more convenient entertainment.

despite the given argument other assert is that they play a vital role in supporting the economy and preserving culture. These places provide employment opportunities for actors, directors, ticket sellers and other workers, while also generating revenue for the government. For example, cinemas release regional films that promote local languages, traditions and cultural values among younger generations. Thus, cinemas and theatres remain important because they contribute to economic growth and cultural preservation.

In conclusion, although online streaming platforms provide cheaper and more convenient entertainment, cinemas and theatres remain essential for creating employment opportunities and preserving cultural values. I believe that both online platforms and cinemas have their own importance in modern society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a position in the conclusion: online services are cheaper, while cinemas and theatres support employment and cultural preservation. The examples of students choosing streaming services and regional films promoting local traditions are relevant. However, the first view is developed mainly through cost, and the economic and cultural benefits in the second view are asserted rather than explained in depth. Your introduction says you will discuss both sides, but your final opinion—that both have importance—could be clearer and more consistently stated across the essay. To strengthen the response, explain why the economic and cultural contributions matter and make your own judgement more definite. The response meets the stated length requirement; 17 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and phrases such as “despite the given argument” and “In conclusion” signal transitions. However, the opening paragraph is difficult to process because several ideas are crowded into one sentence, and the first body paragraph repeats the claim that cinemas are becoming less important. Some links are mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Thus,” and the relationship between the examples and the claims could be made more explicit. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph in a sequence of claim, explanation, and example; vary linking expressions and avoid restating the same conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “online streaming platforms,” “employment opportunities,” “regional films,” and “cultural preservation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and there is some attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “indiviuals,” “imperative,” “culrally,” and “perpose.” Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “for entertainment purpose,” “movie ticket to costly,” and “cheapest than theatres.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations as complete phrases, such as “for entertainment,” “tickets are expensive,” and “cheaper than going to the cinema.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “although” and a relative clause in “platforms provide cheaper and more convenient entertainment.” These structures show an effort to vary sentence patterns. However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to affect clarity in places. For example, “It is contentious issue” is missing an article, while “one compelling argument … is that … do not important” has an incomplete verb construction and unclear agreement. The sentence beginning “They spend their money…” also contains a faulty comparison and an awkward clause structure. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and complete verb phrases, then proofread punctuation and spacing between sentences.
