Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's technological advancement era, some individuals contend there is no longer need for entertainment venues such as cinemas and theatres because a wide range can be accessed online while others believe that cinema and theatre still play a pivotal role in economic developing and culture preservance. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify both perspectives in the introduction and state a partial position, while the Netflix example supports the convenience argument. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas is mentioned but not explained, and the promised discussion of that view never develops beyond the heading “Shifting towards the agreement.” Your opinion is also not clarified with reasons. The response is substantially below the required 250 words, which leaves the main parts of the question unsupported. To improve, explain both views in separate developed paragraphs, give a relevant example for each, and state clearly which view you find more convincing and why.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the introduction presents the issue, and “To commence with disagreement” signals the first body point. The Netflix example also follows the claim about convenience. However, progression is incomplete because the response stops at “Shifting towards the agreement” without presenting the second side or a conclusion. Some linking is mechanical or unclear, and the opening sentence combines several ideas without clear punctuation. Build a complete structure with an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Use transitions to show relationships between ideas, rather than relying on labels alone, and ensure each paragraph develops a clear central point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “entertainment venues,” “affordability,” “convenience,” and “social experiences,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “pivotal role,” though some combinations are inaccurate or unnatural: “economic developing” and “culture preservance” do not express the intended ideas clearly. “A wide range can be accessed online” is also vague about what is available. Aim for accurate collocations and word forms, such as “economic development” and “cultural preservation,” and use precise terms for online content and live venues. A broader, more controlled range would help you explain the cultural and economic arguments in detail.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and complex structures, including a contrast with “because” and “while,” and the sentence beginning “although online platforms…” shows an effort to express concession. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “although … but” uses two contrasting markers together, while “it also provide” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also missing articles and punctuation problems, as in “there is no longer need” and “timetable.Although.” Practise building one complete clause at a time, checking agreement and articles, and separating sentences with appropriate punctuation. This will make your ideas clearer and more reliable.
