Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, with the advancements in the digital channels raised a highly controversial topic where some people refer that theatres and cinemas are not important as entertainment can be accessed online while other oppose this by arguing in favor of cinema and theatres. In my view, both arguments have its own aspects which mainly depend on the mood of user or the environment ones in. In the following paragraphs i will shed light on both aspects.

On the one hand, people favor the digital age on the grounds of accessibility as everything is present under one click. People can enjoy any kind of entertainment based on their mood by sitting at their home at a minimum cost with a flexibility option like pausing the movie or doing some important task but such options are not present at cinema or theaters-once you missed some scene you cannot rewind or play forward. Similarly, many individuals enjoy their own company like introverts who do not enjoy while being with the crowd for such ones entertainment by digital channels is more favorable.

On the flip side of coin, People oppose it mostly on the basis of experience, as watching movie in cinema or theaters provides us a kind of experience which we cannot get while watching same movie at home. But this experience comes along with a cost which is mostly manageable. Further, many people enjoy more when they are in social circle like with their friends so in such cases places like cinema and theaters provide a wonderful platform. Moving ahead, cinema and theater culture have a long history and the same time they also contribute to economical growth of society as when people go outdoor for entertainment they spend the money.

To sum up my views, both channels has it own benefits and limitations and the enjoyment of entertainment majorly depends on ones mood.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a personal position, so the response covers the main parts of the task. The advantages of online entertainment are supported with relevant points about convenience, cost, pausing a film, and avoiding crowds. You also explain the cinema experience and its social value. However, some ideas are less fully developed: the claim that theatres contribute to economic growth is only briefly explained, and the cultural importance mentioned in the prompt is touched on through “a long history” but not illustrated. Your opinion that the benefits depend on a person’s mood is clear, though it could be more decisive. Develop the economic and cultural points with a specific example and state more directly which view you find stronger.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from online convenience to the shared cinema experience is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the flip side,” and “To sum up” help readers navigate the discussion. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some flexibility in organising contrasting arguments. At times, however, linking feels formulaic, and the long second body paragraph combines experience, socialising, history, and economic benefits without clearly separating or ranking them. References such as “such ones” and “it” in the conclusion are not always precise. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “accessibility,” “social circle,” “economic growth,” and “digital channels.” These choices allow you to discuss convenience, social experience, and wider benefits, and some less common vocabulary is attempted. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, including “raised a highly controversial topic,” “refer that,” “flexibility option,” and “flip side of coin.” Repetition of “people,” “entertainment,” and “cinema and theatres” also limits flexibility. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but more natural collocations would make the argument clearer and more precise. Build a bank of topic-specific phrases and check whether each expression is idiomatic in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “while,” and “when,” and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some sentence structures are effective, such as the contrast between watching at home and attending a cinema. However, there are some errors in agreement, articles, capitalization, and sentence construction. For example, “both arguments have its own aspects” has an agreement problem, while “both channels has it own benefits” contains several related errors. The opening phrase, “with the advancements in the digital channels raised,” is also structurally incomplete. Review subject–verb agreement and possessives, and make sure introductory phrases lead into a complete main clause. Breaking up a few long sentences would also improve control.
