Student answer (Band 5.0)

These days, some people beleive that theatres and cinemas are no longer important in this digital era as people can watch all the entertainment online whatever they want. while other individulas argue that theatres and cinemas are still important bothe culturally and economically. partially agree with this statement and in this essay i will support my opinion with example.

Firstly, the theatres and cinemas were more popular in the late twenteeth century where they were the only platforms for the people to watch movies and drams for entertainment. For example, at that time there alot of cinemas in the citye where people go to watch movies by buying tickets, and there were also a culture of theatre performance where artist perform their art at the stage infront of audiences. But in the early of twenty first century the technology has been more advanced and people have access to smart phones and internet and other equipments like laptop, where they watch movies and other entertainment things online by seating at their own door step, therefore the business of cinemas and the culture of theatre performence were declined, and no longer have important in the current digital era.

Another reason why i partially disagree with the arguement theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally is that in the advanced technological era peopel are more occopied with their responsibilites and they have not enough time to go to cinemas to enjoy entertainment, therefore they prefer to mobile phones and other digital equipements for online entertainment.

On the other hand, there is an arguement that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally, because in some big cities there are still cinemas at large shopping malls where mostly university and college students go to watch movies in the form of a group to enjoy their spare time with their fellows, while there are also some cultural councils like Alhamra art council lahore still arrange theatre performances for citizens.

In conclusion, although it is a common belief that theatres and cinemas are no longer important in the current digital era, i believe it is not necessary in all the cities. In few metropolitan cities the culture of theatre performance and cinemas are stil alive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and give a position, but the response only partially fulfils the task because your opinion is not consistently clear or fully explained. The opening says you “partially agree,” while the conclusion mainly states that cinemas and theatre remain alive in a few metropolitan cities, without clearly weighing their economic and cultural importance against online entertainment. Your examples—students visiting mall cinemas and Alhamra Art Council arranging performances—are relevant, but they are brief and do not explain their wider economic or cultural effects. Develop each side with specific reasons and examples, then state a consistent judgement about whether online access has replaced these venues or simply reduced their role.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting the decline of venues and the continuing case for them, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Another reason,” and “On the other hand” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression is not always clear: the paragraph beginning “Another reason why I partially disagree” continues the case against venues, but its link to the stated position is confusing. Some transitions are mechanical, and the conclusion does not clearly resolve the two views. Use topic sentences that identify each paragraph’s main argument, connect examples explicitly to that argument, and make the final paragraph summarise a consistent position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “digital era,” “advanced technological era,” “cultural councils,” and “theatre performances.” However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make the writing less clear or natural, such as “individulas,” “equipements,” “culture of theatre performence,” and “by seating at their own door step.” Repeated use of “important,” “entertainment,” and “people” also limits precision. Build a more accurate range for discussing access, attendance, and cultural value, and check spelling and common word combinations. For example, describe venues as “cultural institutions” and say that audiences “attend performances” rather than “go to enjoy entertainment.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses linked with “where,” “because,” and “therefore,” but complex sentences are often faulty and errors occur frequently. Examples include “there alot of cinemas,” “where artist perform,” and “the business … were declined”; these show problems with verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings and with “I.” Some sentences become difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear grammatical control. Practise forming accurate subject–verb patterns and past-tense descriptions, and divide long sentences when needed. Careful proofreading for articles, agreement, and punctuation would make your meaning easier to follow.
