Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that theatres and cinemas are more important for entertainment, while others believe that online platforms are more worthwhile in new digital era.

Many people believe that online streaming platforms such as Netflix or Amazon prime are more cheaper source of entertainment because audience can watch unlimited movies or series in less than 2 dollar monthly whereas, in cinemas they have have to spend more than 5 dollars for each movie without including travel and food expenses. They also believe that watching movies like Kick 3 are more convienient and easy for them as they would not have to travel to theatre and also with no traffic problem.

However, some people think that theatres and cinemas are very essential for the revival of our economy because when more people will buy tickets and watch movies, the owners can earn huge amount of money. As a result, they would pay higher tax to government, which might increase the overall tax collection. Hence, government will spend more on the public facilities like hospitals etc. Furthermore, theatres and cinemas would also play a vital role in reminding people about their culture. For instance, when audience will go and watch movies together, they would meet with people from different cultures and languages. Therefore, they would learn from different kind of people and would promote each others culture.

After examining both viewpoints, I strongly believe that consuming entertainment online is much more better than theatres. This is beacuse most of the people are facing finanacial problems due to rising inflation and buying tickets for movie would be an extra expense for them. I think it is more useful for them to have fun at cheaper cost through netflix etc and it is also more easy to take time out of their busy routine as they can watch anytime due to online environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for online entertainment in the conclusion. The comparison of subscription costs with cinema tickets is relevant, and you give reasons for the economic and cultural value of venues. However, these points are not developed equally: the online-cost argument is explained with a concrete comparison, while the economic claim that ticket sales lead to higher tax collection and better public facilities needs clearer support. The cultural point about audiences meeting people from different backgrounds is relevant, but its connection to theatres specifically could be explained more precisely. To strengthen the response, develop each main idea with a clear explanation or example and make your position more nuanced by acknowledging what in-person venues offer that online viewing cannot fully replace.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting the online-viewing case, a paragraph on the benefits of venues, and a conclusion stating your opinion. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, though, the progression feels mechanical, with several sentences beginning with connectors such as “Hence” and “Therefore.” Some links also imply a stronger cause-and-effect relationship than the explanation establishes, particularly the move from cinema attendance to improved public facilities. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the logical connection between each claim explicit. Clearer referencing and more focused paragraph development would also help the reader follow how each example supports the main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “online streaming platforms,” “rising inflation,” “tax collection,” and “public facilities.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some topic-specific phrasing. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision, including “more cheaper,” “revival of our economy,” “convienient,” and “finanacial.” Some expressions are also vague or informal for an academic essay, such as “huge amount of money” and “etc.” Aim for accurate collocations and more precise wording, and proofread spelling carefully. For example, “lower-cost source of entertainment” is more natural than “more cheaper source,” while “economic activity” would express the economic argument more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when,” and “as.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include the repeated auxiliary in “they have have to spend,” the incorrect comparative structure “more cheaper,” and the future forms “when more people will buy” and “when audience will go,” where a present form is needed after “when.” There are also issues with articles and number, as in “a cheaper cost” and “audience.” Review comparative forms, conditional/time clauses, and singular and plural noun patterns. More consistent control of these structures would make your complex sentences clearer and more accurate.
