Student answer (Band 6.0)
While some argue that theatres and cinemas are not essential anymore in the current digital era since people can watch them online , others believe that they are crucial due to the economic and cultural value they bring. In my opinion, I largely agree with this view because it offers convenience and are cost effective.
On the one hand, there are those who believe that watching cinemas in a conventional setting brings economic value to the society. Money obtained through selling of tickets, snacks and drinks to those watching the movies or cinemas will result in job creation and empowerment of locals businesses. For instance, many bar attendanders are employed so as to serve people watching movies or live performances with snacks and beverages in the venue.Furthermore, cultural exchange is greatly enhanced since several people from different culture interact, therefore creating a sense of cohesion in a community.
On the other hand, I believe that watching this performances online offers convenience to the viewers. People are able to watch any entertainment online at the comfort of their seats without overcrowding. Additionally, individuals can access this content at anytime without the need to follow strict timelines . As an illustration, Churchill show in Kenya records content during live and post online enabling individuals to access them later. Moreover, the cost of settling up cimena venue is high and as such, watching online is cheap since one needs only bundles access them.
In conclusion, while some believe that watching movies in the traditional setting offers some financial and cultural advantages, I believe that the benefis of watching them online are more significant. This is mainly due accessibility and lower cost involved in order to watch them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear preference for online entertainment, while recognising the economic and cultural contribution of venues. The examples of ticket and refreshment sales creating jobs, and of Kenya’s Churchill Show being available online later, make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the economic point is explained, but the cultural claim that interaction creates community cohesion is asserted rather than illustrated. Your opinion is also supported mainly by convenience and cost, with limited explanation of why these outweigh the cultural and economic benefits. Develop each main claim with a clearer explanation or specific example, and make the comparison behind your conclusion more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, however, some connections feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always fully clear. For example, the move from online convenience to the high cost of setting up a cinema venue introduces a related but distinct point without explaining the link. The conclusion repeats the preference but does not draw together the two sides of the argument. Use referencing more precisely and add transitions that show whether a sentence gives a reason, example, or contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “economic value,” “cultural exchange,” “job creation,” and “overcrowding,” which allows you to discuss both sides of the topic. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “a sense of cohesion.” However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “watching cinemas” is not a natural way to describe viewing films, “bar attendanders” is unclear, and “settling up cimena venue” contains errors that make the intended phrase difficult to identify. “Benefis” and “locals businesses” also need correction. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and proofread spelling; this will make your otherwise relevant vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening clause and sentences with “since” and “therefore.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In the introduction, “it offers convenience and are cost effective” has a subject–verb agreement problem and unclear reference. In “Money obtained through selling of tickets … will result in job creation,” the sentence structure makes the relationship between the money and the outcome awkward. There are also missing or misplaced articles and punctuation, as in “at anytime” and the spacing before commas and full stops. Check that each verb agrees with its subject, that pronouns have clear referents, and that sentence boundaries and punctuation are controlled.
