Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, advances in technology has made it possible for people to watch film at home. While some people believe that theatre and cinema remains important economically and culturally, I believe digital entertainment is more beneficial because it is convenient and affordable.
Admittedly, entertainment venues remains important because they contribute to economic growth and help preserve traditions. It creates employment opportunities for actors, directors, ticket sellers and other workers. Workers can take on different roles in film and theatre productions, thereby earning money for themselves and contributing to the wider economy, therefore reducing unemployment rate in the society. Furthermore, individuals can learn more about their customs and tradition when they see live performances. For instance, a family can visit a theatre to watch live performances such as musical or drama scene that reflects the history and customs of a particular society. As a result, they learn about cultural heritage and pass it on to the next generation.
In contrast, digital entertainment is more advantageous because it is more convenient and affordable. Individuals can use their smartphones or television to watch movies from the comfort of their homes without spending money on transport or paying for expensive cinema tickets. People can pay for a subscription that will last them for about a month to stream trending film online. Applications like Netflix and Youtube has made it more comfortable for people to download or select any movie of their choice at any specific time without having the thought of going to a cinema. Moreover, the ability to pause, rewind or rewatch a particular drama is top notch. For example, a teenager can pay for a plan on Netflix which cost about 4000 naira to watch different kind of movies. They can use their phone to watch horror, comedy or action movies just to unwind and relax as well as download films that are have episodes. Consequently, they are able to save a considerable amount of money and enjoy films in a more comfortable environment.
In conclusion, although theatres and cinemas contributes to economic growth and cultural preservations. I believe digital entertainment is more beneficial because it is cheaper and allows people to enjoy fim in a comfortable environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a clear position: digital entertainment is more beneficial because it is convenient and affordable. The discussion of venues includes relevant economic and cultural points, while the online-entertainment paragraph gives practical support, such as streaming subscriptions and the ability to pause or rewatch films. These examples show the task is understood and the main ideas are relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the economic contribution of venues is explained mainly through employment, and the cultural point relies on a general example. The comparison could be more explicit, for instance by acknowledging what a live performance offers that home viewing cannot. This would make the argument more fully developed and balanced.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from the benefits of venues to the advantages of digital viewing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Admittedly,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some linking is less controlled, however. In the first body paragraph, “thereby” and “therefore” connect several consequences in one long sequence, making the relationship between ideas feel slightly mechanical. The conclusion also begins with a dependent “although” clause but does not complete its contrast smoothly. Use a wider range of links between claims and examples, and ensure each sentence connects clearly to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “economic growth,” “employment opportunities,” “cultural heritage,” “subscription,” and “rewind.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the examples make the discussion specific. There are also attempts at less common or emphatic phrasing, such as “top notch,” but this is informal for an academic essay and does not fit the point as precisely as “particularly useful.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “film” and “movies” recur often, while “different kind of movies” and “cultural preservations” are not natural forms in context. Aim for more precise alternatives and check spelling, including “fim,” so that the vocabulary sounds consistently appropriate to an academic discussion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “when,” and most meaning remains clear. Some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries keep the grammar from being consistently controlled. For example, “advances in technology has” should be “have,” and “Applications like Netflix and Youtube has” should be “have.” The conclusion’s “although” clause is left as a fragment before the full stop, and “which cost” needs a form such as “which costs” when describing the plan. There are also awkward constructions such as “films that are have episodes.” Review agreement and clause completion, then proofread complex sentences to ensure their parts fit together accurately.
