Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have two different opinions about the theatres and cinemas in this digital age. Most of the people think that now a days all the entertainment are available online, so everyone prefered to watch on home screen. While some people are still in favor of theatres and cinemas because of its economical and cultural importance.

I beleived that the importance of theatres and cinemas has become decreased in this age, but this generation still visit the cinemas and watch a new released movie instead of fully ignoring the entertainment industry.

Before the arrival of smart phone and digital technology, the people usually go to theatres and cinemas to watch the picture. They arranged the tickets and bought it in advance because people are so much curious and do not want to miss the new movie which is palyed once after a long time. But with the arrival of mobile phone technology their curiosity become drastically decreased because there is no such specific date and time for watching. All the old and new movies are availble online on netflix and other platforms. So, there is no doubt in this statement that the importance of theatres and cinemas in this digital age become decline.

Subsequently, the people who argue that the cinemas are still important both economically and culturally have an optimastic aproach because watching a movie is part of our past entertainment life which dissoveled in our blood and become a symbol of our culture and society. So whenever a group of friends or cousin wanted to entertain themselves they must preferably visit the cinemas. Moreover, the cinemas generate a very good revenue for the production company, which not only make a profitable amount for the company but also play a crucial role in the economy of country by paying the tax.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your position: you believe cinemas have become less important, while acknowledging that people still visit them and that they contribute economically and culturally. The discussion is relevant, and the examples of online platforms and cinema revenue help explain your points. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The case for online entertainment is explained through convenience and availability, whereas the cultural argument relies mainly on the broad claim that cinema is part of the past and “dissoveled in our blood.” Your own opinion could also be supported more clearly with a specific reason or example. The response meets the task requirements, but fuller explanation of the cultural view and a more explicit conclusion would make the discussion more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about digital access, and a paragraph about cinemas’ cultural and economic roles. This gives the reader a general sense of progression, and linking expressions such as “But,” “So,” and “Moreover” show how some ideas relate. However, the final paragraph combines cultural and economic points without clearly separating or developing them, and there is no concluding paragraph to bring the discussion and your position together. Some connections are also mechanical or unclear; for example, “Subsequently” does not accurately signal the shift to the opposing view. Use clearer topic sentences, organise each main reason distinctly, and finish with a concise summary of your view.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “digital technology,” “entertainment industry,” “production company,” and “revenue,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “crucial role” and “economically and culturally.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural. Examples include “optimastic aproach,” “dissoveled in our blood,” and “the importance … become decline.” “Picture” is also imprecise when referring to films. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe cinema as “deeply rooted in our culture” rather than using the blood metaphor. This would make your vocabulary more precise and easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “While” and longer sentences explaining causes and results. The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “everyone prefered” should be “everyone prefers,” and “their curiosity become” needs a past-tense form such as “became.” In “the importance … has become decreased,” the verb pattern is not grammatical; use “has decreased.” The opening “While some people…” is a fragment when left as a separate sentence. Review tense consistency and subject–verb agreement, and make sure dependent clauses are attached to complete sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would improve clarity.
