Student answer (Band 5.5)

Movies and other entertaining content watched by people of every age, either in cinema and theathres or in their homes, while watching it on their mobile phones. With the advancement of technology and for the ease of people, some people puts a negative feedback on theaters and cinemas, saying that it is no longer important in digital age, but some disagrees with this statement. However, I also think they are no longer important and majority agrees on the same saying.

Cinemas and theatres is a place people prefer going with their friends and family as a group, getting to spend quality of time with their loved ones, while enjoying watching their favourite movies. Similarly the have the access to every essential for example, food, beverages, toilet and cool pictures spots where they can capture their memories.

However, some people argue that nowadays these places are completely irrelevant and doesn't have any importance because with the growth and advancement in technology. Now everyone can watch their favourite movies or other serials at their comfort zone, staying at home, at anytime especially late at night with their friends and they don't have to worry about anything and can enjoy equally with more comfort either on their mobile phones, Tv's or even they can install a projector and can have the same experience just like cinemas.

In my opinion, I agree with the people who say that theatres are no longer important because few weeks back I made a plan with my friends that we will go and watch the newly released spider-man movie in cinema, but we got to hear from our friend who watched it there, saying that it was just an overprized experience where we have to be on time or we will miss it. And just by staying at home we all enjoyed the movie with our favourite people and food.

So, the demand for cinemas and theatres is decreasing with the advancement in digital age and the new generationl mindset.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear opinion that cinemas and theatres are no longer important, and you include a personal example about choosing to watch a Spider-Man film at home. You also mention reasons people value venues, such as spending time with friends and family, so both views are present. However, the discussion is uneven: the case for cinemas’ economic and cultural importance, which is central to the prompt, is not really explained. The first supporting paragraph focuses mainly on socialising and facilities, while the opposing view and your own position receive more attention. Develop both sides with specific reasons and examples, and make the economic and cultural dimensions explicit to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting reasons for each view, a personal example, and a concluding statement. Connectors such as “However,” “Similarly,” and “So” help signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, progression is sometimes unclear because the first body paragraph describes cinema facilities without clearly linking them to the argument that venues remain culturally or economically important. The paragraph beginning “However, some people argue” also shifts abruptly from the previous point, and the conclusion largely repeats the opening position. Use clearer topic sentences, organise each paragraph around one main claim, and make references such as “these places” and “they” unambiguous. This would make the overall progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “advancement of technology,” “digital age,” “comfort,” and “newly released.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, sometimes making the meaning less precise. For example, “puts a negative feedback on theaters” does not naturally express criticism, and “overprized experience” is not the usual phrase for something costing too much. There are also spelling and word-form errors, such as “theathres” and “generationl.” Aim for more precise expressions for the economic and cultural aspects of the topic, and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “saying that.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction can make the reader pause. For instance, “Movies and other entertaining content watched by people” is an incomplete opening clause, while “some people puts” and “Cinemas and theatres is” have subject–verb agreement errors. In “because with the growth and advancement in technology,” the clause is incomplete, and “the have the access” appears to be missing a clear subject. Practise building complete sentences with one main clause, then add subordinate clauses carefully; also check agreement and tense consistency.
