Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that theatres and cinemas are not important now as one stream movies online. However others believe that they are still vital since the boost economy and culture. I will discuss both perspectives then state my opinion.
On one hand, with the introduction of streaming services online people do not have to visit cinemas or theatres to watch movies. This is because it is cheap and feasible, an individual can enjoy a movie in the comfort of their home without paying or having to use transport to locate a cinema. For example, a group of friends can organise a small gathering at home, with their own cooked food, no hustle having to locate a cinema or choosing one movie, because they can watch different movies online.
On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are considered important as they boost a country's economy and, also its culture if movies are depicted about a certain traditional practised in the nation. Economically, with movie premiers, the cinemas or theatres do bring cash to the country, especially if a movie is worldly recognised and good, many people will want to watch the movie. whereas culturally, if for example, the film in about the nation or documentary showcasing the way people live in that country or certain practises, it retains the culture and even the coming generation can learn from it, this further supports the view.
In conclusion, both views have its pecks but I agree that both theatre and cinemas are important as they indeed encourage a countrys economy and culture which is need in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the question and give a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion: you recognise the convenience of online viewing, then argue that cinemas and theatres remain important for the economy and culture. The examples about friends watching films at home and films depicting national traditions are relevant. However, the economic case is less fully explained: saying premieres “bring cash to the country” would be stronger if you showed how through ticket sales, jobs, or visitor spending. The cultural point is also somewhat unclear in places, particularly “it retains the culture.” Develop each main idea with a more precise explanation and example so that the discussion is balanced and fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, and the final paragraph restates your position. This meets the expected level of logical organisation, with some progression within the body paragraphs. To make the flow more controlled, avoid linking several ideas in long, loosely connected sentences, such as the example about friends gathering at home. The transition “whereas culturally” is also awkwardly attached after a full stop and lowercase opening. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing so readers can follow how each example supports the point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “streaming services,” “comfort of their home,” “boost a country's economy,” and “documentary.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range and precision are uneven, and several word-choice or spelling errors reduce naturalness. For example, “no hustle” does not fit the intended meaning, “pecks” is not the right word for advantages, and “worldly recognised” is an inaccurate expression. “Traditional practised” also has an incorrect word form. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling, especially in key phrases. More precise terms for economic effects and cultural preservation would help you express your arguments with greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including explanations with “This is because” and conditional phrasing such as “if a movie is…” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “they are still vital since the boost” needs a correctly formed verb, and “both views have its” has a disagreement between the plural subject and pronoun. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “whereas culturally” following a full stop, and the final sentence has an incomplete construction in “which is need.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause structure, then proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
