Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, digital technology has changed the way people access entertainment. Although some people believe that online platforms have reduced the importance of traditional entertainment venues, others argue that cinemas and theatres still play a significant role in society. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, some people think that theaters and cinemas are less important. One of the main reason is that people prefer to watch their favorite movies and dramas at home because it is more convenient and budget friendly. Their is not need to spend a lot money for watching a new film on mobile phones or television, meanwhile watching movie in theater or cinema is costly due to ticket charges. Furthermore, wide variety of content is available on youtube or other social media plat forms. For example, we can watch all the drama episodes on youtube anytime and anywhere, which is more convenient and time saving.
On the other hand, some people argue that theaters and cinemas are still important and play a significant role in our society. Firstly, it is very helpful for our countrys economy, because through cinemas and theaters we can generate a huge revenue every year. Recent Research shows that, approximately 30% profit generated every year through film industry. However, it also gives employment oppurtunities to the people who are searching for a job.
Secondly, i feel that entertainment industry plays a very important role in culture, through films and dramas we can promote our culture not only in our own country but also worldwhile. Moreover, they preserve traditional values, reflect a countrys history, and promote national identity.
In my opinion, both forms of entertainment are important, but cinemas and theaters should not be replaced completely by online platforms.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear opinion: online viewing is convenient and less costly, while cinemas and theatres contribute economically and culturally, and you conclude they should not be replaced. These points are relevant to the prompt. The economic argument is supported with employment and a revenue claim, and the cultural paragraph mentions national identity and traditional values. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained. For example, the figure about film-industry profit is not clearly connected to the venues themselves, and the cultural point would be stronger with a specific example of how a production represents or preserves culture. Develop the online-viewing argument beyond convenience and cost to make the discussion more balanced and fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” make the progression easy to follow, and the second viewpoint is divided into economic and cultural points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some stronger control through purposeful paragraphing. To make the flow more consistently smooth, reduce mechanical sequencing such as “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and connect claims more explicitly. For instance, explain how the employment created by the industry follows from cinema and theatre activity. The sentence beginning “However, it also gives employment opportunities” has an unclear link to the preceding revenue point; a clearer transition would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “online platforms,” “budget friendly,” “revenue,” “employment opportunities,” “traditional values,” and “national identity.” This gives the response an appropriate range, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “wide variety of content” needs an article, “worldwhile” is not the intended expression, and “30% profit generated” is an unclear phrase. There are also repeated general terms such as “important” and “convenient.” Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling and collocations carefully; this would make the argument sound more natural and less reliant on broad wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although some people believe…”) and a relative clause in the example about watching episodes “anytime and anywhere.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in both basic and longer sentences. Examples include “One of the main reason” (number agreement), “Their is not need” (incorrect construction), and “through cinemas and theaters we can generate” (awkward clause structure). The sentence about profit also lacks a clear grammatical subject and verb pattern. Review agreement, articles, and sentence construction, and proofread punctuation and capitalisation. More accurate control of these forms would make the complex ideas easier to read.
