Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some individuals argue that modern age theatres and cinemas are no longer as significant as they were before because people can entertain themselves by watching various forms of content on the internet. However, others believe that theatres and cinemas still play an important role in both the economy and culture. I believe that regardless of availability of content on social media, theatres and cinemas play a major role in the entertainment industry.
The technology has evolved over time and helps us with many tasks, which were difficult to perform in the past. One of its greatest innovation is the internet, which has made entertainment more accessible. Nowadays, there are numerous mobile applications specifically designed to watch dramas and movies. Some applications, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, require people to purchase a subscription to access their content. People enjoy the freedom of watching movies and dramas no matter where they are. For example, one can watch any movie on their laptop on a long journey.
However, theatres are meant to portray the art of different artists while cinemas contribute in the economy. The internet provides multiple contents, but the performances in the theatres allow people to experience the emotions from a closer look. Big screens in cinemas give the ultimate feeling of being actually in the movie. For example, watching a movie with 3d glasses gives real life artifact.
In conclusion, the medium of entertainment has shifted from theater and cinema to digital applications, but it is crucial to keep the theatre and cinema culture alive, also for the economic growth and appreciation of arts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear opinion: online services make entertainment more accessible, while theatres and cinemas remain important. The examples of Netflix, watching a film during a journey, and the cinema experience are relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The online paragraph explains convenience, but the opposing paragraph mainly asserts that theatres portray artists’ work and cinemas contribute to the economy; it does not explain the economic contribution or cultural value in much detail. The point about 3D glasses supports immersion, but “real life artifact” does not clearly explain the benefit. Develop each main claim with a reason and a specific consequence or example, and make your own position more explicit in the body as well as the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for online entertainment, one for theatres and cinemas, and a conclusion. The contrast between the views is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “However” and “In conclusion” help signal the progression. This organisation is effective, though the development within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt: the cinema paragraph moves from artistic performance to economic contribution and then to screen size without explaining how these points connect. Some links, such as “but” in the conclusion, also present the ideas as a sharper contrast than necessary. To strengthen progression, group related points and use clearer references and transitions to show how each example supports the paragraph’s main claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “subscription,” “content,” “performances,” “economy,” and “appreciation of arts.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “more accessible” and “the entertainment industry” suit the discussion. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations. “Modern age theatres” is unclear, “multiple contents” is not idiomatic, and “real life artifact” does not convey the intended cinema experience. “Theatres are meant to portray the art” is also imprecise. Aim for more natural combinations and precise terms, such as “live performances,” “a wide range of content,” and “an immersive experience.” This would make your arguments clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “regardless of availability of content on social media” and a relative clause in “applications specifically designed to watch dramas and movies.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and punctuation generally supports the paragraph structure. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “One of its greatest innovation” needs plural agreement (“innovations”), while “regardless of availability” needs an article (“the availability”). In “theatres allow people to experience the emotions from a closer look,” the sentence structure does not express the intended relationship clearly. Review articles, agreement, and sentence construction, and try to vary complex structures while keeping them accurate.
