Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this era, people spend a huge amount of time online. All the cinemas and theater shows can be found online nowadays. So there is an arguement about whether the theatres and cinemas are important in this modern era.

People can watch all the entertainment online with spending a little to no amount of money and staying at their homes. In contrast, going to cinemas and theaters requires money for transportation, buying tickets, and snacks. Furthermore, some shows which are not available in cinemas, can be found online. Therefore, Watching entertainment online is cheaper, more convenient and has more varieties.

Still some people argue that theatres and cinemas are still important, as it helps the economy of the country and is a part of the culture. People who travel to watch theatres or cinemas are those who are really passionate about the art, want to support the artists or want to have a great time there with their family and friends. Besides, going outside also offers them a chance to explore other places and various kinds of snacks.

Even though both options have there benefits, there are some demerits for both of them. Sometimes there are pirated contents online. Piracy is unfair to the artists. There can be also half naked and adult contents that are avilable online and those can harm youths and teens. Some theatres and cinemas have bad service quality. Sometimes those are not clean and sometimes there are people who are very loud and chaotic. Some people bring their children who can cause disturbance.

In short, it does not matter where we watch the entertainment if we are not doing anything which is harming the artists or harming us. The purpose of entertainment should be relaxation and spending leisure hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views: online entertainment is presented as cheaper and more convenient, while cinemas and theatres are linked to economic support, artists, and shared cultural experiences. Your final paragraph gives a general preference for allowing people to choose, but it does not clearly state whether you believe these venues remain important or whether online access has made them less necessary. The discussion also shifts into disadvantages of both options, including adult content and poor service, which takes space from developing the task’s central comparison. To strengthen the response, state your position directly and support each side with more specific explanation—for example, how venues create jobs or preserve live performance, and what online viewing cannot provide. The response meets the task’s length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on online viewing, one on the continuing value of venues, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. This makes the main stages easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Furthermore,” and “In short” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the paragraph beginning “Even though both options have there benefits” introduces a list of disadvantages that interrupts the discussion of the two views rather than extending it. Some connections are also mechanical, and “there” in that opening makes the reference unclear. Improve progression by keeping each body paragraph focused on one side of the debate and using clearer references to connect claims to their explanations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “convenient,” “passionate,” “pirated contents,” and “support the artists.” There is some variety in how you describe costs, access, and the experience of attending venues. However, several expressions are imprecise or repetitive, such as “all the entertainment,” “great time there,” and “various kinds of snacks,” which limits precision in an academic discussion. Spelling errors such as “arguement” and “avilable” are noticeable, and “half naked” is an informal, awkward description in this context. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations; for example, describe the cultural value of live performance or the economic contribution of venues rather than relying on broad phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “Even though both options have there benefits…” and the sentence explaining the costs of attending a cinema. Most ideas remain understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are noticeable. For example, “with spending a little to no amount of money” uses an incorrect structure, and “as it helps the economy … and is a part of the culture” has unclear agreement and reference because it follows plural “theatres and cinemas.” In “Some theatres and cinemas have bad service quality,” the sentence is understandable, though the phrasing is awkward. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check pronoun reference, agreement, and clause structure before adding further complexity.
