Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, with the rise in online streaming some people argue, that the traditional theatres and cinemas have become obsolete while other think that they still have their cultural and economic value. This essay will cover both side of perspectives and will show you that the theatres and cinemas still have their value.

With the advancement of technology everything has become easily available, with one click away. Also at the time of corona people were not allowed to leave their home so they watched everthing online. Moreover everything is available online in cheap prices. We have many online platforms like Netflix, Dailymotion, Amazon, youtube and many more website where you can watch movies, seasons or dramas free or with very low charges. Like in the price of one cinema ticket you could have the membership of these website for one month with unlimited use. You can give these website acess to your friends and family members. Like in Pakistan, people do not like to go outside to watch movies with families so they prefer to watch online.

On the other hand, cinemas and theatres are equally important for country's economy and cultural value. They also give job opportunities to the people. It also give positive image of our country on international media. In contrast to that you can not have the experience of watching movies with other people and laughing as compared to watching alone. Its support and encourage our film field and generates a good revenue.

According to my perspective cinemas and theatres are still important but they need development and should show those shows which are not present online. Cinemas should update their visuals and introduce 3D effects.

In conclusion, online entertainments are convenient and cheap but theatres and cinemas have great contribution in country cultural and economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear opinion: cinemas and theatres remain important, but should develop and offer experiences unavailable online. The online-access argument is supported with relevant examples such as streaming platforms, lower costs, and viewing at home in Pakistan. You also mention employment, national image, shared audience experience, and revenue in support of venues. This covers the task well, while the economic and cultural claims are less fully explained than the convenience argument. For example, explain how cinema revenue benefits local businesses or how theatre preserves particular cultural traditions, rather than simply asserting these contributions. Your position is clear, but developing the supporting examples and linking them more directly to the two views would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, your opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the line of argument easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help readers identify shifts. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The repeated use of “Also,” “Moreover,” and “Like” makes the online paragraph read as a list, while “In contrast to that” does not clearly connect the shared cinema experience to the preceding economic points. Referencing is also occasionally vague, as in “It also give positive image” and “Its support.” Group related points and use more precise links and pronouns so that the progression feels smoother and less dependent on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “online streaming,” “job opportunities,” “revenue,” “cultural value,” and “3D effects.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are uneven, with several imprecise or unnatural expressions. For example, “in cheap prices” and “give these website acess” are not natural collocations, while “film field” is vague where “film industry” would be clearer. Spelling errors such as “everthing,” “acess,” and “youtube” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise topic language and check spelling and word forms; this would help you express the economic and cultural arguments with greater flexibility and clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a time clause (“At the time of corona people were not allowed to leave their home so they watched…”) and a contrast structure (“but they need development”). Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation recur. Examples include “other think,” “It also give,” “one cinema ticket,” and “in country cultural and economy.” Some sentences also join several ideas with commas, as in the opening sentence, making the structure less controlled. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and noun forms, and use full stops or conjunctions to separate complete ideas. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your attempts at complex sentences, would strengthen the writing.
