Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall opinion that cinemas and theatres remain important, and you attempt to discuss both sides. The cultural example involving Diwali and Holi is relevant, while the point that online viewing is cheaper and more convenient represents the opposing view. However, the discussion is only partial: the economic and cultural benefits are asserted rather than explained, and the online argument receives little development. The paragraph about cinema sound and atmosphere supports the value of attending in person, but does not fully address the economic or cultural case. The response is also six words below the required minimum. Develop each view with a reason and a specific example, and make your position more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for different points, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To sum up” help readers identify the stages of the discussion. However, progression between ideas is limited, and some points are placed together without a clear link—for example, the paragraph moves from weekend attendance to government revenue and then to festivals. The second and third body paragraphs also present related arguments about in-person and online viewing without explaining how they connect. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main claim, then develop it in a logical sequence. Clearer referencing and fewer abrupt transitions would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “revenue,” “cultural activity,” “festival,” “sound system,” and “online platform.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the economic, cultural, and technological aspects of the question. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. For instance, “auditorium” is used where you mean theatres, and “important sources of economically and culturally” does not express the intended idea clearly. Repetition of “movies,” “cinemas,” and “theaters” also limits variety. Build a more precise set of topic collocations and check whether each word fits its context; this will make your ideas clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few longer structures, including “before explaining why…” and the example beginning “For example,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in sentence formation and verb forms appear throughout, as in “government generate revenue,” “many people comes,” and “they can watch movies their time.” Articles, plurals, and agreement are also inconsistent, while several sentences lack the grammatical elements needed to connect their ideas. These problems can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “although.” Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structure.
