Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals argue that in digital era, theaters and cinemas are no much longer essential as people can watch all the entertainment online whenever they want, while others argue that theaters and cinemas are still plays an important role for both economically and culturally. Both point of view are discussed further.

To begin with, online entertainment is becoming increasingly popular nowadays. One of the most essential factors is that People can watch movies, videos and podcats easily anywhere and at anytime as their convienence. Moreover, watching movies online can be cheaper for people than buying an expensive ticket, paying for transport and purchasing snacks. For instance, movies platforms such as netflix and amazon offers much discount on their subscription. In addition, it offers people to save time by watching movies on social media rather than visiting theatre. Additionally, peole can watch movies with their family in a comfortable environment. Therfore, it allows people to watch movie with family and it saves time.

On the other hand, Theatres and cinemas plays a significant role towards country's economy and cultural heritage. In addition, by operating cinemas, the government can generate a revenue, which can be used for the country's development. For example, we can use a small amount of money to enhance public transport and build a park. As a result, transportation will be easy and much more convienent. Additionally, cinemas are important for social interaction. For instance, people can meet each other, spend time together and have a fun together. Moreover, cinemas provide emloymnet opportunities for ticket sellers and other staff.

To sum up, online entertainment offers convinence and comfort by watching movies anywhere, while cinemans are important for our culture and it creates a revenue for country's development. I believe that theatres and cinemas are the best way to watch a movie because it offers better sound qaulity and people can meet each other under the one roof.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear personal preference: online viewing is convenient and economical, while cinemas support employment, social interaction and public revenue; your conclusion favours cinemas for sound quality and shared experience. These points are relevant, but they are not developed evenly. The online section explains convenience and cost with examples, whereas the cultural case is mainly reduced to meeting people, and the economic claim that cinema revenue can fund transport or parks needs a clearer link or evidence. The task also asks about cultural importance, so explain how films or theatres preserve and share cultural stories. Extending these ideas and making your opinion more explicit throughout would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrast between the two positions is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To sum up” help signal the stages of the argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several transitions are mechanical, and “Additionally” and “Moreover” repeatedly introduce points without showing how they relate. The sentence beginning “Therefore” repeats the preceding idea about watching with family and saving time. Use clearer referencing and vary the links to show cause, contrast, or example, while ensuring each sentence advances the paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital era,” “subscription,” “cultural heritage,” “social interaction,” and “employment opportunities.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “generate a revenue” and “enhance public transport,” though some combinations are inaccurate or unnatural. Spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable—for example, “convienence,” “podcats,” “emloymnet,” and “cinemans”—and occasionally distract from the message. Repetition of “movies,” “people,” and “important” also limits flexibility. Build a more accurate range of collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas sound more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause with “while,” a reason introduced by “as,” and a relative clause in “revenue, which can be used…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “theaters and cinemas are still plays” combines incompatible verb forms, and “Theatres and cinemas plays” has a subject–verb agreement error. “It offers people to save time” uses an incorrect verb pattern, while “a revenue” and “for country's development” show article or possessive problems. Practise checking each subject against its verb and learn common verb patterns such as “allow someone to do something.” More accurate control of these structures would improve clarity.
