Student answer (Band 6.0)

The rapidly growing digital technology has changed the way people consume entertainment. On the one hand, some people argue that theatres and cinemas are still significant both economically and culturally. On the other hand, some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all entertainment content online. In my opinion, digital platforms have become an important source of entertainment, they should complement rather than replace theatres and cinemas. I will discuss both views in the following paragraphs.

To commence with, online entertainment is best and beneficial for busy and working people. It is matter of everyday observation that online content is the source of convenience for many people. To illustrate, people who work they can watch series, movies and shows online, at any time and any place which provides them flexibility and comfort. Moreover, the online platforms are quit affordable for people to watch there favourite content and eliminates the expense of travel and tickets. For example, when I ussually watch online movies, I particularly use free websites which saves my time and money. Furthermore, another benefit of online entertainment is that it provides variety of content at one place. To substantiate my point many online websites provide variety of movies genres at one place, which provides varitey and choice at the same platform. Therefore, online entertainment has many benefits as it provide flexibility and convience to people.

On the contrary, theatres and cinemas offers a very different kind of experience. As we all know, watching film or shows on large screens with advanced sound system creates a unique atmosphere. In addition, watching live theatres also provides a wonderful experience as it creates direct interaction between the audience and the actors. In the same manner, theatres and cinemas are benficial for actors, technician and many other professional as it creates employment opportunities for them. Similarly, theaters and cinemas preserves traditions, cultural and unique talent. Hence, theatres and cinemas are also significant culturally and economically.

In the view of the above discussion, it can be concluded that online entertainment is convenient and beneficial for people but it cannot fully replace the theatres and cinemas as they also hold cultural and economic significance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: online entertainment should “complement rather than replace” theatres and cinemas. The convenience, affordability and variety of online content are relevant points, while the contrasting paragraph covers the distinctive viewing experience, employment and cultural value of venues. The personal example of using free websites also supports your first view. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that venues preserve traditions and talent would be stronger with a specific example, and the economic contribution could be developed beyond employment. This covers the task well overall, with some points more fully supported than others; more precise explanation and examples would make the discussion more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from online convenience to the value of physical venues is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “On the contrary,” and “Hence” help show relationships between ideas. At times, however, linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “To illustrate,” “Furthermore,” and “Similarly.” Some sentences also repeat the same point about variety, as in “variety of content at one place” followed by “variety and choice at the same platform.” Grouping related benefits more tightly and using clearer references between sentences would create smoother progression and stronger cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss both online entertainment and venues, including “flexibility,” “unique atmosphere,” “interaction,” and “employment opportunities.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “To substantiate my point.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “quit” for “quite,” “there” for “their,” “varitey,” “convience,” and “benficial.” Some expressions are also awkward or repetitive: “variety of movies genres” and “online content is the source of convenience” could be expressed more naturally. The range is adequate for the topic, but more accurate spelling, collocations and varied phrasing are needed to make the vocabulary consistently clear and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “as,” “which,” and “when,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, however, including subject–verb agreement in “theatres and cinemas offers” and “online entertainment … provide,” and the faulty construction “people who work they can watch.” There are also issues with articles and plurals, as in “watching film” and “advanced sound system,” and the sentence “digital platforms have become an important source of entertainment, they should complement…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy. Review agreement, sentence boundaries and article use, then proofread complex sentences carefully.
