Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some demographics argue that theaters and cinemas are no longer relevent, as people have easy access to all the entertainment online. While others argue that theaters and cinemas are still both economically and culturally important. I belive that theaters and cinemas have economical and cultural importance in this digital era.
To begin with theaters and cinemas, they provide a different experience compared to normal online entertainment, where we have a high quality picture and sound provided in the cinemas. Theaters and cinemas also helps people to be socially active, as we go outside and meet different people, where not only the staff from theaters and cinemas gets benifited, but the surrounding businesses also get few more customers, for example we buy some food or gifts generally when we go to movie or an act.
Conversely, We have many online options in this digital world for entertainment, online entertainment is cheap and affordable but we never step outside. We play games or watch movies in our phone or laptop but we do it alone. It is quite comfortable and easy access but it can make a person asocial. We have some advantages in online entertainment but it comes with a cost.
In my opinion, theaters and cimemas are essential and must be protected, as they provide employment to many individuals and helps to boost economy. To conlude, theaters and cinemas get people together and helps in building relations, and also people depend on theaters and cinemas for their livelihood.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear opinion that theatres and cinemas remain important, and you include relevant points about the shared experience, employment and benefits to nearby businesses. However, the discussion of the opposing view is brief: affordability and convenience are mentioned, but the claim that online entertainment can replace venues is not explored in much depth. Several points also need fuller support—for example, explain how cinemas contribute to the economy beyond creating jobs, or give a specific example of their cultural value. The response is 248 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum. Develop both sides more evenly and add a little explanation or an example to each main idea to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting venues, a paragraph on online entertainment, and a conclusion. This makes the main position easy to identify. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose, and links can feel mechanical. For instance, “To begin with” introduces the first argument, while “Conversely” signals the next, but the online paragraph shifts from affordability to isolation without clearly connecting those points. The conclusion also repeats ideas about employment and relationships rather than drawing the discussion together. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting detail explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim; vary linking expressions and avoid repeating the same points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “employment,” “economy,” “socially active” and “affordable.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “relevent,” “belive,” “benifited” and “cimemas.” Some phrases are also unnatural or vague: “normal online entertainment” and “get few more customers” do not express the ideas precisely. Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More specific terms such as “streaming services,” “local businesses” and “live performances” would help you discuss the topic with greater precision and avoid repeating “theaters and cinemas” so often.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as” and “where,” and your meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur in sentence structure, agreement and punctuation. For example, “theaters and cinemas also helps” should use a plural verb, and “not only the staff … gets benefited, but the surrounding businesses also get” has inconsistent agreement and an awkwardly balanced construction. The opening uses a sentence fragment beginning “While others argue,” and the final paragraph has similar agreement problems in “people depend … and helps.” Some comma splices also join independent clauses. Practise building complete sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and separating or correctly joining clauses.
