Student answer (Band 6.0)

A chunk of people nowadays argue that in the very technologically advanced state of the world, theatres and cinemas are no longer that necessary as people can avail most of the entertainment content they watch, on online platforms. Whilst other part of the crowd disagrees considering theatres and cinemas important as they are economical and culturally relevent.

As we are aware, that the digital age has lead to some of the greatesr mainstream media platforms for entertainment, not only for movies and films but series and reality shows that provide much longer span of joyous experience than movies or films.

Some people enjoy the comfort of their homes while taking pleasure in the things they watch for entertainment. Also including a sum of quite a lot of people who want to cherish media irrespective of the time, which is not possible with theatres and cinemas as they have a schduled list of movies to play.

On the other hand there is no comparision to the experience you get whilst sitting in the theatres or cinemas, thats how movies are supposed to be seen where the environment itself creates an unforgettable thrill. Also theatres and cinemas will always be economical as well as being culturally intanct.

My stance on this as a proper cinephile will be that nothing can beat the lively experience of watching movies in a theatre or a cinema, also i do enjoy alot of series and shows in the cozy environment of my home.

In conclusion, I would firmly say that the exhilirating and thrilling experience of watching a movie as a form of entertainment should be done in theatres and cinemas for economic as well as cultural reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both perspectives and give a personal view: online viewing is presented as convenient and flexible, while cinemas offer a distinctive shared experience. Your preference is clear in “nothing can beat the lively experience,” and you also acknowledge enjoying shows at home. However, the discussion is unevenly developed. The online argument is mainly about comfort and scheduling, while the claim that cinemas are “economical” and culturally important is asserted rather than explained or supported with an example. The conclusion repeats your preference but does not fully develop the economic or cultural reasons. To strengthen the response, explain how cinemas contribute to local economies or preserve shared cultural experiences, and support each side with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, discussion of online entertainment, a contrasting paragraph about cinemas, your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main direction. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Also including a sum of quite a lot of people” is a fragment and does not connect smoothly to the preceding point. The paragraph about cinemas also moves quickly from the viewing experience to economic and cultural importance without showing how these ideas relate. Use complete topic sentences and develop one connected point at a time, with clearer references between claims and explanations.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “digital age,” “entertainment content,” “lively experience,” and “culturally.” Some less common choices show an effort to express your ideas, but several are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “economical” for the intended meaning of economic importance and “culturally intanct.” There are also spelling errors, including “relevent,” “comparision,” and “exhilirating,” which reduce the accuracy of the writing. Phrases such as “a chunk of people” and “a sum of quite a lot of people” are informal or awkward for an academic essay. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling; this will make your meaning more natural and convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “Whilst” and a relative clause in “platforms … that provide.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “As we are aware, that” incorrectly separates the introductory phrase from its clause, while “Some people enjoy … Also including …” leaves the second sentence incomplete. In “the digital age has lead,” the verb form should be “has led.” There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, such as “i” and the missing apostrophe in “thats.” Work on complete sentence construction, verb forms, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
