Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely contended that in this era of digital environment, entertainment is easily accessible by online platforms and one does not need to go to cinemas or theatres. This issue has generated considerable controversy. The valid arguments will be discussed of both views alongwith my own opinion that theatres and cinemas are still important for the economic gain and cultural expansion.

The supporters of the first viewpoint say that technology has made entertainment easy to be reached. In other words, easy network facility has made it convenient to use the technology while sitting at home. To exemplify, more than two third of the masses prefer to watch netflix instead of going to cinema. Hence, it is easier to watch movies at the comfort of ones own home.

While proponents argue that economical development is enhanced by entrtainment. To explain it, economy as well as culture of a country, both are substantially impacted by cinema as these help in propagating various factors which make plausible effects on the mindset od a person. For instance, Indian economy mostly runs through show business and it is important for society. Therefore, financial position of a country is enhanced by entertainment industry.

In conclusion, after looking at the both sides of the argument, I assert that although technology has overpowered each and every sphere of life, culture and economy of a country still need theatres and cinemas to make people well aware about various kinds of other components existing in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion: cinemas and theatres remain important for economic and cultural reasons. You also present the online-entertainment view, mentioning convenience and Netflix, so both sides are recognisable. However, the discussion is only partial: the first view receives a brief explanation, while the second relies on broad claims such as “Indian economy mostly runs through show business” without evidence or a clear explanation of cultural benefits. The conclusion repeats your position rather than drawing together the arguments. The response is also two words below the required minimum. Develop each side with specific, relevant examples and explain how they support your position to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “In other words,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. The second body paragraph begins “While proponents argue” without clearly identifying which proponents, and the connection between economic development, culture, and cinema is difficult to follow. Some transitions, including “Hence” and “Therefore,” repeat conclusions rather than advancing the reasoning. Use clearer topic sentences, make references explicit, and organise each paragraph around one main claim followed by explanation and evidence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a reasonably varied, formal vocabulary, including “considerable controversy,” “proponents,” “propagating,” and “cultural expansion.” These choices show an effort to discuss the topic beyond basic everyday language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “digital environment,” “entertainment is easy to be reached,” and “plausible effects on the mindset” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling errors, such as “entrtainment” and “od,” and “alongwith” should be written as two words. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations over ambitious phrasing, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including “although technology has overpowered each and every sphere of life” and the clause beginning “as these help…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but control is uneven. For example, “The valid arguments will be discussed of both views” has an awkward passive construction, and “more than two third of the masses prefer” contains errors in number and agreement. In “at the comfort of ones own home,” the possessive form is also incorrect. Some sentence patterns are incomplete or difficult to follow, particularly “While proponents argue that economical development is enhanced by entrtainment.” Practise accurate clause construction, agreement, and possessives, then check each sentence for completeness.
