Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals believe that in the contemporary digital era, widespread of online platforms are mostly used to watch all the entertainment where threatres and cinemas are no longer crucial while some other individuals people that threatres and cinemas are still crucial both economically and culturally.

On the one hand, the argument that online platforms provide entertainment and there is no longer need of threatres and cinemas because services like Netflix, Youtube, Hotstar etc allow users to access a vast library of global content instantly from the comfort of their homes. The primary advantage can be saving travelling time, ticket queue, saving travelling expenses and the high expenses associated with cinema concessions. For instance, a monthly subscription is worth then often taking a single movie ticket, making digital consumption highly attractive option for budget conscious families. Constantly, many view the traditional theatres experience as an unnecessary luxury in a world where personalized entertainment is available at one's fingertips.

On the other hand, traditional theatres and cinemas play an important role in sustaining local economies and preserving cultural heritage. Economically, the film and performing arts industries generate millions of jobs worldwide, from hospitality and ticketing staff to actors directors and technical crew. Major film releases and live theatres productions also stimulate local businesses, such as nearby restaurants and transport services, boosting the hospitality sector. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response discusses both perspectives and gives a position in the conclusion: online viewing is convenient and economical, while physical venues support jobs and local businesses, and you believe cinemas will continue to thrive. These are relevant points, but the discussion is only partly developed. The online argument has a useful example about subscription costs, whereas the cultural importance of theatres is named but not explained with a specific example. The sentence about changes in volume and the enjoyment they provide is difficult to interpret, so it does not clearly support the second view. Your conclusion also focuses on economic benefits without restating the cultural case or explaining why the in-person experience matters. Develop each main point with clearer explanation and evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, however, some ideas are joined mechanically or do not connect clearly. For example, the list of savings in the first body paragraph repeats “saving,” and “Constantly” does not clearly signal the relationship between the preceding example and the next claim. The sentence about volume is also hard to follow, interrupting the progression of the second body paragraph. Use more precise links between claims and explanations, and ensure each paragraph develops one clear line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “vast library of global content,” “budget conscious families,” “local economies,” and “cultural heritage.” This gives you a workable range for discussing the topic. However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling problems sometimes make the meaning unclear. Examples include “widespread of online platforms,” “threatres,” “theatres productions,” and “the increased and decreased in the volume.” Some expressions are also repetitive, such as “crucial” and “saving.” Aim to use accurate, natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary for the cultural experience of live performance would also help you explain that side of the debate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a relative clause in “services like Netflix… allow users to access a vast library…,” and you use linking structures to organise the argument. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence-level errors make parts difficult to understand. The opening sentence has a faulty structure around “while some other individuals people that,” and the final sentence, “I believe that cinemas will continue to thrive because their economic benefits,” is incomplete because the reason is not expressed in a complete clause. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and plural forms, as in “high expenses associated with cinema concessions” and “live theatres productions.” Practise building complete clauses and checking agreement and sentence boundaries.
