Student answer (Band 5.0)

In todays era, digital platforms are very popular because of its cheaper and easier access to any program they want while other argue that theatres and cinemas are still relevant for its cultural importance and it helps with economy. I believe that both views matter but in my opinion, digital era is more important than watching in theatre and cinemas. In my essay, I will discuss both my views and why I chose digital age.

On the other hand, digital platform has a great impact the current generation because it provide people many options to choose from in terms of entertainment and it is cheaper. For example, family can watch together while watching netflix which which is cheaper. Also, there are many categories to choose from such as films, comedy, horror, crimes etc.

On the other hand, some argues that watching in theatre and cinemas are important because it promotes cultural benefit and it helps with economy.

In my opinion, Watching using digital is more important than going to cinema and theatres because of it is more cheaper and it is more accessible for everyone.

In conclusion, both digital and watching in theatre and cinemas have point. However, in todays generation people are more comfortable in using their gadgets to watch online movies or entertainment due to its cheaper price and convenience as compared to spending money in theatre and cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a clear preference for online entertainment, and you identify relevant reasons such as lower cost and convenience. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the case for theatres and cinemas is only mentioned briefly: “it promotes cultural benefit and it helps with economy,” with no explanation or example. The online side is also supported mainly by a general example about watching Netflix as a family, so the discussion remains limited and under-developed. The conclusion repeats your preference but does not add support. The response is 19 words below the required minimum, which also limits the space available to develop the ideas. Explain the economic and cultural contributions of cinemas and extend each main point with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Your response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can identify your overall preference. However, the progression is limited: the paragraph beginning “On the other hand” introduces online platforms, while the next paragraph uses the same transition for the opposing view, making the relationship between ideas less clear. The separate opinion paragraph largely repeats the introduction rather than advancing the discussion. Some linking is also mechanical, and the repeated “On the other hand” does not accurately signal contrast in the first body paragraph. Organise the essay into a developed paragraph for each view, followed by a conclusion, and use transitions that show the precise relationship between points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main subject, including “digital platforms,” “entertainment,” “cultural benefit,” and “economy.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or repetitive, such as “digital era is more important than watching in theatre and cinemas” and “both digital and watching in theatre and cinemas have point.” These choices make some ideas less natural, although the general meaning remains understandable. There are also repeated references to “cheaper” and “more accessible” without more precise wording to distinguish the benefits. Build a wider set of expressions for online viewing and live venues, and check collocations and word forms so your vocabulary expresses comparisons more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “because” and a concluding sentence with “as compared to.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. For example, “because of its cheaper and easier access” has an unclear grammatical construction, while “it provide people many options” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “family can watch together,” an article is missing, and “because of it is more cheaper” combines incompatible structures and uses an incorrect comparative form. The duplicated “which” also disrupts the sentence. Practise accurate agreement, articles and comparative constructions, then proofread each sentence for repeated or conflicting structures.
