Student answer (Band 5.5)

Entertainment plays a crucial role in individuals life by relaxing them in their leisure time. However, few individuals believe that in the technological area, theatres and cinemas are no longer vital as individuals can watch movies online, while others argue that theatres and cinemas have its own importance both financially and culturally. In this essay I will discuss both views and give my opinion that why I believe that cinemas and theatres are no longer important as much as they were in past.

On the one hand, some people say that in the modern world, theatres and cinemas are no longer importand. The main reason is that people can watch films online at home and this has been possible due to the advancement in technology. For example, individuals can watch movies on their laptops and smartphones.

On the other hand, few individuals argue that they are still crucial both ecnomically and traditionally. Producers may promote their movies by releasing them in cinemas and theatres instead of releasing it online, it may be beneficial for them to earn money and boost the economy of the country. However some people may still like to watch movies in cinemas. For example, peolpe can spend quality time together by visiting there and it will indirectly contribute to the economy of the country.

I believe that people may prefer to watch films at home instead of going to cinemas bacause some people may don't like to visit theatre and cinemas. They may avoid the noise audience and distraction created by them. They may tend to relax at home. However, it doesn't mean that theatres and cinemas are of less importance. Some people still like the traditional way of entertainment.

In conclusion, some individuals believe that due to digital era theatres and cinemas are no longer vital because people prefer to watch films online, while others believe that they are still crucial both financially and ecnomically and will support to boost the economy of the country. Overall, I consider both have their own values but digital era may overtake them in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a personal position, so the response is relevant to the task. The first view is supported by the practical point that people can watch films on laptops and smartphones, while the opposing view includes cinema releases as a source of income and shared visits as a cultural experience. However, these ideas are only briefly explained: the economic benefit is asserted rather than illustrated, and the cultural importance is reduced mainly to spending time together. Your position also shifts somewhat: the introduction says cinemas are no longer as important, but later you acknowledge that they retain value and conclude that both have their own values. State a consistent view and develop each side with a clearer example or explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a paragraph expressing your opinion, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. Overall, the ideas are arranged coherently, but progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, the second-view paragraph moves from producers’ earnings to people spending time together without clearly connecting the cultural and economic points. The conclusion also repeats the opening contrast rather than drawing the argument together. Use clearer links between each claim and its explanation, and make pronoun references such as “they” and “it” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “advancement in technology,” “boost the economy,” and “traditional way of entertainment.” There is some repetition of general terms such as “individuals,” “people,” “important,” and “crucial,” which limits precision and flexibility. Several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors are noticeable, including “technological area” for the digital age, “avoid the noise audience,” and misspellings such as “importand,” “ecnomically,” and “peolpe.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make expression less natural. Build a more precise range for discussing convenience, shared cultural experiences, and revenue, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “However,” and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms remain. For example, “individuals life” needs a possessive form, “theatres and cinemas have its own importance” has a plural-subject agreement problem, and “some people may don’t like” combines incompatible verb forms. The sentence beginning “Producers may promote their movies…” also joins several ideas with commas, making the relationship between them difficult to follow. Aim for accurate clause construction and check agreement and verb patterns; clearer punctuation will help your longer sentences remain controlled.
