Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many believe that in the modern era, theatres and cinemas lost their value as people can access whatever they want online, while others argue that theatres and cinemas are of economic importance as they provide easy jobs for teenagers. I agree that cinemas and theaters still hold great value to society, whether economically or socially as they provide jobs for young adults who are side hustling or for social gatherings within families that are keen on movies on weekends. Supporters of the online era argue that it has made movies accessible and available without having to wait to buy a ticket, therefore saving money while watching comfortably at home with many services available neglecting the weather outside. For example, In Canada where the weather is cold and not safe for driving, many people found the online era to be superior. On the other hand, cinemas and theaters hold economic importance as they provide jobs for young adults who are studying and working part-time or seeking extra money. They also are of great value to social gatherings of many families, since it is recognized as a tradition in many households in Egypt to visit theatres on weekends for the sake of keeping up with each other and enjoying leisure time together. To conclude, While the online era provides the movies that we go to the cinema for anytime, I still believe that they hold many valuable benefits, such as economic and social ones that we cannot neglect, for example providing jobs for adolescents and keeping a close-knit family together.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both perspectives and state a consistent opinion that cinemas and theatres retain economic and social value. The examples about cold weather in Canada and weekend theatre visits in Egyptian households make the discussion relevant. However, the online-view argument is mainly about convenience and comfort, while the opposing view focuses on part-time jobs and family outings; the cultural importance of theatres is not explored much beyond this tradition. Some claims also need fuller explanation—for instance, how cinema employment benefits young people or why shared viewing strengthens family ties. Develop each side more evenly and explain the significance of your examples to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall sequence: it introduces the debate and your view, presents the online perspective, contrasts it with the benefits of cinemas, and concludes. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help signal these moves. However, most of the essay is presented as one continuous paragraph, so the two viewpoints and the conclusion are not visually separated. Some connections are also mechanical, and the opening sentence combines several ideas before the discussion is clearly organised. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, each viewpoint, and the conclusion, and make the relationship between claims and examples more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “accessible,” “economic importance,” “part-time,” “leisure time,” and “close-knit family.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the examples show some effort to use language beyond basic terms. At times, however, wording is imprecise or informal: “easy jobs for teenagers,” “side hustling,” and “for the sake of keeping up with each other” do not express the intended points as naturally as more formal alternatives would. “Online era” is also repeated and is not always the clearest label for streaming services. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms while keeping the tone consistently academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including clauses with “as,” “while,” and “since,” and most sentences remain understandable. Some grammatical and punctuation errors are present but do not prevent the reader from following your argument. For example, “theatres and cinemas lost their value” would be more appropriate as “have lost their value” in this context, and “In Canada” and “While” are incorrectly capitalised after commas. The sentence beginning “I agree that cinemas…” is also overloaded, making its structure harder to control. Review tense choices, sentence boundaries, and comma use, and divide long sentences where several reasons are being joined.
