Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the age where internet accessibility has been made very easy, people especially the newer generation believes that theatres and cinemas are no longer a requirement as they can stream and consume all the entertainment they want over internet easily. Meanwhile, many millenials argues that theatres and cinemas still hold a major space both economically and culturally in todays digital age. The essay will discuss both the views and will provide my own opinion on the topic.
On one hand, most of the newer generation says that theatres and cinemas are no longer needed as people now have internet access almost everywhere. They believe people can stream and watch movies on their devices and in comfort of their home without any excess charges that they have to pay for consumption of the same at a big screen. It relieves them from the hassle of ticket bookings and waiting lines and other inconvieniences that follows the entire procedure of watching a film in a cinema.
On the other hand, many argues that theatres and cinemas are still very important as they hold major culture and economic value to a place. For example, Bombay, which is the capital of Bollywood movies, still have many old cinema and theatres that run to this day broadcasting some of the most widely known movies around the world, such as "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge", 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" etc and many other patriotic movies on special occasions as they hold a very deep meaning to the history of beginning of the film industry in India.
I personally believe, even though today's digital age has made it easy to watch movies online, a place still needs some major theatres and cinemas. As watching movies on a big screen is an experience in itself and people can gather in a place with friends and family and get to enjoy the film and to appreciate the creativity that went into making it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state your own position: online viewing is convenient, but cinemas remain valuable for the shared big-screen experience. The examples about home streaming and Bombay’s historic cinemas are relevant, and the film titles help illustrate cultural significance. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The case for online entertainment is explained through convenience and avoiding queues or ticket costs, while the claim that cinemas have economic value is introduced but not supported with an economic example or explanation. Your own opinion is clear, but it would be stronger if you explained why the communal experience matters beyond stating that people can enjoy films together. Develop each main point with a specific consequence or example to make the discussion more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding paragraph giving your opinion. The signposts “On one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, and the ideas within each paragraph generally progress logically. The final paragraph also returns directly to the central issue. To make the organisation more effective, connect examples more explicitly to the claims they support, particularly the economic value mentioned in the third paragraph. Some transitions and framing are formulaic, such as “The essay will discuss both the views,” and the conclusion could synthesise the two sides rather than mainly restating your preference. More varied, precise links between claims and examples would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “stream,” “ticket bookings,” “big screen,” “patriotic movies,” and “film industry.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “an experience in itself” communicate your view effectively. There are also attempts at more specific language, although some expressions are imprecise or unnatural: “hold a major space” and “hold major culture and economic value” do not express the intended ideas idiomatically. Spelling errors such as “millenials” and “inconvieniences,” along with inconsistent naming and punctuation around film titles, reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling; for example, describe cinemas as having “cultural and economic significance” rather than “holding major culture and economic value.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “even though,” and “which.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “people … believes” should be “people … believe,” and “many millenials argues” should be “many millennials argue.” In “Bombay … still have many old cinema and theatres,” the subject–verb agreement and plural forms need correction; “Bombay … still has many old cinemas and theatres” would be clearer. The opening sentence is also awkwardly constructed, and the final sentence’s “and to appreciate” does not parallel the earlier verb forms smoothly. Review agreement and build complex sentences with clear, balanced clauses.
