Some people say that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online. Others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
More and more people believe that in the technological era, watching movies at cinemas and spectating plays in theatres does not have the same importance as before due to the present online streaming, whereas others claim that they are still valuable for both the economy and culture. In my opinion, I agree that cinemas and theatres are economically and culturally valuable for many reasons.
Watching movies online has become easier than before. With the availability of several streaming websites such as, Netflix and Hulu, people can easily watch hundreds of movies and series with a simple click. As a result, a great shift has been made by movies producers to partner up with these companies to produce movies that are exclusively available on their websites. In addition, plays and stand-up shows which are performed in theatres can be streamed online. Many of them are produced in partnership with big streaming companies, so the number of live audience is decreasing by time.
Cinemas have been always important for the economy. The revenue of some movies may exceed a billion of dollars. For example, the Avatar movie gained over one billion dollars in the box office leading to improved tax income. Theatres have a great representation of the current cultural events that occur in different countries. In ancient Rome, actors used the stage to oppose political events or to suggest new ideas that may alter useless thoughts. The theatres are also important for training and representing actors and actresses. There is no leading role can be performed without standing first on a theatre stage.
In conclusion, Streaming online to watch movies or plays has a great impact in audience mindset to prefer watching online rather than going to cinemas or theatres. However, Cinemas are still important for economy's wealth, and theatres are highly important for begenir actors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both perspectives and state a clear opinion: cinemas and theatres remain economically and culturally valuable. The streaming paragraph explains why online viewing is convenient and notes that it may reduce live audiences, while the later paragraphs give relevant economic and cultural reasons. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The case for online entertainment is mostly about access and declining attendance, with little discussion of why this might make venues less important overall. The economic example about Avatar and tax income is also asserted rather than explained, and the claim that no leading role can be performed without first appearing on stage is too absolute. Develop these points with clearer reasoning and more specific support to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on online entertainment, a paragraph on the continuing value of venues, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “As a result,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main progression. This organisation is coherent, and the paragraphs generally have identifiable purposes. To make the progression more consistently clear, connect examples more explicitly to the claims they are meant to support; for instance, explain how the Avatar example demonstrates wider economic benefits. Some transitions are mechanical, and the conclusion repeats the main points without fully drawing together the contrast between the two views. More precise referencing and smoother links between claims and evidence would strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “online streaming,” “exclusively available,” “revenue,” “box office,” and “cultural events.” These choices make the subject clear, and there are attempts at less common phrasing. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “spectating plays,” “a great shift has been made by movies producers,” and “improved tax income.” “Begenir” is also misspelled, and “audience mindset” is not a natural expression in this context. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Aim for conventional collocations and check spelling and word forms, especially in the conclusion and when describing economic effects.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses introduced by “whereas,” “as,” and “so,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “the number of live audience is decreasing” has an agreement and plural problem, while “Cinemas have been always important” has awkward adverb placement. The sentence “There is no leading role can be performed” combines structures incorrectly; use either “No leading role can be performed…” or “There is no leading role that can be performed…”. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Streaming” and “Cinemas” after the opening of the conclusion. Review agreement, clause construction, articles, and sentence punctuation to improve control.
