Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this era of advanced technology, there is an ongoing debate on whether theatres and cinemas are important or not. This essay will cover both aspects before arguing that theatres and cinemas are sill vital.

On the one hand, people who discourage going to theatres and cinemas believe that everything is available online. They assume that they can save time by not going to cinemas as they do not have to wait for a specific time and a specific date to watch a particular show .In addition, they argue that money can be saved by watching movies online. For example,Netflix provide a wide range of movies and series in a cheap subcription.

On the other hand, supporters of cinemas and theatres claim that though evrything is available online, cinemas and theatres still hold a valuable place both economically and culturally.Theatre and cinemas help to build economy as thousands of people are involved from writing a script to showing it on screen. Also, numerous stalls are arrange for refreshment and mutiple adds are run.Another important reason is that visiting cinemas and theatres give you a break from hectic schedule.People go to the cinemas in groups which bring them together socially.Cinemas and theatres always display best version of local culture. The writers use multiple languages in the script and a wide range of cultural dresses are wear by the performers. In this way, cultural diversity is showed to the people of all ages and people can learn not only about their own traditions but also learn about global culture.

In my opinion going to cinemas and theatres is still more important. It is true that advance technology has helped people in watching any show at anytime on their beds;however, cinemas and theatres holds a significant role economicallu and culturally which can not be replaced by digital technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and make your own position clear: the introduction says theatres and cinemas are “still vital,” and the conclusion reinforces this. The online-view paragraph gives relevant reasons—convenience and lower cost—and the opposing view includes economic and cultural arguments. This meets the task well, with some elements showing the fuller development expected at the next level. However, several points are asserted rather than explained: the claim that the industry supports the economy could be illustrated with jobs or revenue, while “numerous stalls” and “multiple ads” are not clearly connected to its economic importance. The cultural point is relevant but broad; a specific example would make the support more convincing and balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion stating your opinion. The progression from online convenience to the continuing economic and cultural value of venues is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” help signal the argument. This is a strong, logical arrangement, though cohesion is not always fully smooth. Some sentences in the second body paragraph move quickly between employment, refreshments, socialising, and cultural representation, so the relationship between points could be made clearer. Use topic sentences and more precise references to connect each example to the paragraph’s main claim, rather than relying mainly on broad transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “advanced technology,” “cultural diversity,” “hectic schedule,” and “local culture.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or imprecise: “build economy,” “a wide range of cultural dresses,” and “best version of local culture” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “subcription,” “evrything,” and “economicallu,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise phrases such as “contribute to the economy,” “traditional costumes,” and “showcase local culture,” and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession with “though” and a contrast introduced by “however.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and limit control. For example, “Netflix provide” needs subject–verb agreement, “cinemas and theatres holds” should use a plural verb, and “numerous stalls are arrange” has an incorrect passive form. Other examples include “visiting cinemas and theatres give you” and “dresses are wear,” where agreement or verb forms are faulty. Sentence boundaries and spacing around punctuation also need attention. Practise checking agreement, passive constructions, and verb forms, then edit each sentence for punctuation; this will make your varied structures more reliable.
