Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different views regarding the significance of cineams. It is often argued by individuals that theatres and cinemas are still crucial both culturally and economically, while others consider that in this era, theaters and cinema are no more important as they can watch what they want online. From my perspective, theatres are still necessary these days. This essay will discuss both view before presenting my viewpoints.

On the one hand, it is true that cinemas and theatres lost their popularity these days due to advancement in technologies. This is mainly because, some people find it easy to watch online what they want instead of visiting the cinemas for movies. Moreover, everything is available online and people can watch them according to their free time. Nowadays, everyone has a hectic schedule and they hardly get any time to visit the cinemas. Therefore, they can watch all their favourite movies online according to their pace. For example, mostly all individuals free at night time due to their busy working hours and that time they watch all the entertainments online.

On the other hand, some people beleive that theaters are still essential both economically and culturally. Primarily, some people feel more comfortable by going to theatres and they find it the best place for entertainment and spend quality time with their family. They can enjoy in cinemas along with get together with their family members. On top of that, some individuals deeply attached to their culture and give more priority to watch cultural movies in cinemas. So, people frequently visit the cinemas which will lead to boost the economy as well cultural significance. Hence, cinemas and theatres play a vital role in both economically and culturally.

In conclusion, although people have strong arguements for and against the importance of cinema, i think cinemas are still consider essential because several people visit them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the question and gives a clear overall view: “theatres are still necessary these days.” The first body paragraph explains the convenience of online viewing, while the second gives economic and cultural reasons for retaining cinemas, so the main task is covered. However, the discussion is only partly developed. For instance, the claim that cinemas “will lead to boost the economy” is not explained with a concrete mechanism or example, and the cultural point is asserted rather than illustrated. The conclusion repeats the preference but does not add much synthesis. To strengthen the response, explain how cinemas support jobs or local businesses and give a specific example of their cultural role, while maintaining the same clear position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” makes the discussion easy to follow, and the main ideas generally progress in a sensible order. This meets the lower-band expectation of clear overall organisation and shows some stronger control through paragraphing and signposting. However, cohesion can feel mechanical because several sentences begin with “Moreover,” “Therefore,” “On top of that,” or “Hence,” and some links repeat rather than clarify relationships. The reference in “they can watch them” is also slightly unclear. Use a wider range of linking methods, including pronouns with clear referents and cause-and-effect links integrated into sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “digital age,” “hectic schedule,” “cultural movies,” and “economically and culturally.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-choice, and collocation errors reduce precision. Examples include “cineams,” “beleive,” and “arguements,” as well as “all the entertainments online” and “deeply attached to their culture,” which are not natural expressions in this context. Repetition of “people,” “cinemas,” and “watch” also makes the writing less flexible. Build a more accurate range for discussing access, audience habits, cultural identity, and economic impact, and check spelling carefully. More precise phrasing would make the ideas clearer without requiring unnecessarily advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “although people have strong arguments for and against…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but errors occur often enough to limit accuracy and sometimes make relationships awkward. For example, “some people feel more comfortable by going to theatres” has an incorrect grammatical pattern, while “some individuals deeply attached to their culture” is missing a verb. The conclusion also has faulty verb forms in “cinemas are still consider essential.” There are further issues with articles, agreement, and punctuation, such as the comma after “because” in “This is mainly because, some people…”. Practise accurate clause construction and verb forms, then proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb.
