Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Digital age, cinemas and theatres were once considered vital leisure activity. It was the time when people had limited access of these facilities at homes. Families either planned to visit cinemas or theatres on weekends or used to bring VCR to watch movies. Even on VCR they could only see movies which were not the latest. So, cinemas or theatres were there to show the latest movies. Therefore, people considered it necessary. Talking about now, all those latest movies and dramas are available in smart phones. One can have netflix access to watch even more content. This is the reason, people think that going to cinemas or theatres is no longer required. On the other hand, some think that the culture of moving out together with family and friends should be preserved, as sitting alone and watching on mobile or PC is not as entertaining as going out with family and friends. Therefore, they still find it interesting and important.
I stand with the idea that we should extract leisure time to spend with family and friends. But spending this time in cinema or in theatre is not appreciable in my opinion. This is because, I never went to cinema or theatre ever due to the culture I belong to. It is difficult for me to support the idea to going there to enjoy watching movie or drama. As far as the matter of being it an economical way I don't believe it rather it is easy, economical and even more entertaining to arrange a movie time at home, gather your friends and family, have economical meal prepared and enjoy. For outing follow some other outdoor ideas rather going to cinema or theatre.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You discuss both views: the first paragraph explains that online access to films makes cinema visits seem unnecessary, while the opposing view values shared outings with family and friends. Your own position is also stated: you favour spending leisure time together but do not support choosing cinemas or theatres. However, the economic and cultural importance named in the prompt is not fully examined. The economic point appears only briefly, and the cultural argument is reduced mainly to socialising; there is little explanation of how venues support employment, artists, or shared cultural experiences. Your personal example explains your reluctance, but does not provide much support for the wider argument. Develop each side with specific reasons and examples, and make the relationship between your opinion and the two views more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable progression: it moves from past access to entertainment, to the current online alternative, then to the opposing view and your own opinion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the discussion from your conclusion, and connectors such as “On the other hand” and “Therefore” signal relationships between ideas. However, the first paragraph contains several points in one block, and the progression from the cultural argument to your personal experience is abrupt. Some linking phrases, especially repeated uses of “Therefore,” make the connections feel mechanical rather than fully developed. Organise the essay into clearer paragraphs for each view and your opinion, and use references or transitions that show precisely how each example supports the point before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital age,” “latest movies,” “content,” and “economical.” There is also some attempt to express abstract ideas, such as preserving “the culture of moving out together.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “vital leisure activity,” “limited access of these facilities,” “extract leisure time,” and “not appreciable.” Repetition of “cinemas or theatres” and “family and friends” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural phrases and a wider range of terms for venues, shared experiences, and financial effects. For example, distinguish between the cost of a cinema visit and the economic contribution of theatres and cinemas to local communities.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “when,” “as,” and “because,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur across sentence patterns and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “Digital age, cinemas and theatres were once considered vital leisure activity,” “people had limited access of these facilities,” and “I never went to cinema or theatre ever.” There are also problems with verb forms and sentence construction in “the idea to going there” and “As far as the matter of being it an economical way.” Work on articles, prepositions, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries. Editing these recurring structures would make your ideas clearer while allowing you to retain the complex sentences you are attempting.
