Student answer (Band 5.0)

In these digital era some people believe that, theatres and cinemas are not important as people can watch entrainment online while others argue that they are still important to economy and cultural ife.I belive that theatres and cinemas are still crucial both economically and culturally.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas strengthen social cohension.People from different social groups meets there ,interact and exchange different skills such as ,language, teamwork and cooperation among themselves. For example,a young artist meeting with a celebrity for the first time ,we learn how celebrities dress, communicate and interact with others. In addition,it fosters persons sense of belonging.Up coming actor will feel belonging to actors when they converge at the theatre and cinemas rather than learning through online platforms.Through such gatherings tax is being collected, increasing the source of income to the government.Business such as cafes ,hotels motels also earn by selling and buying goods and serving hence improving the livelihood of individuals involved.

Furhermore, culturally,it has greatly help in preserving cultural heritage. Customs of certain culture is protected and observed,in cinemas they keenly do what is right according to certain culture and avoid what is not recommended and this help in promoting cultural exchange and understanding of cultures. For example ,a play about Kamba wedding where the spouse cooks on the wedding day at the pride's home, clearly teaches that, both pride and groom have to work together.

In conclusion, theatres and cinemas are still crucial as they strengthen social cohension, enhances people's sense of belong, preserve cultural heritage and promotes cultural exchange and understanding.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you believe theatres and cinemas remain important. You give relevant reasons, including social interaction, employment and business income, and cultural preservation, with examples such as a Kamba wedding play. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the response gives almost no account of why people think online entertainment makes theatres and cinemas less important. This leaves a major part of the task only partially addressed. Some supporting points are also unclear or insufficiently explained—for instance, the example about meeting a celebrity does not clearly show how theatres strengthen social cohesion. Develop the online-entertainment argument fairly, then explain why your view is stronger, using more directly relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas are grouped broadly into social/economic and cultural benefits. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from social cohesion to a celebrity example, belonging, tax and local businesses without clearly showing how each point connects. The second paragraph also combines cultural preservation and cultural exchange without a clear sequence. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Furthermore” are used, but the first does not introduce the opposing view and therefore creates a misleading relationship. Improve cohesion by giving each paragraph one clear central claim, ordering its explanation and example logically, and using transitions that accurately signal contrast or addition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “social cohesion,” “sense of belonging,” “cultural heritage,” “cultural exchange” and “livelihood.” These choices show some range beyond basic everyday language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow: “entrainment” appears to mean “entertainment,” “cultural ife” is unclear, and “pride” is used where “bride” is intended. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “source of income to the government” and “belonging to actors.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe cinemas as “generating tax revenue” and say that performers “feel a sense of belonging to the artistic community.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “For example, a play about Kamba wedding where the spouse cooks…” However, the range is limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in “People from different social groups meets” and “it has greatly help”; articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “Up coming actor will feel belonging to actors.” Punctuation and spacing errors, including missing spaces after full stops and commas, further interrupt reading. These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence boundaries.
