Student answer (Band 5.5)
Advancements in technology has made the entertainment facilities more accessible and convenient. Some people argue that in the modern days, theaters and cinemas are less significant as people have online access of all the entertainment they want while some believe that theaters and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my opinion.
On the one hand, increasing popularity of online platforms has reduced the importance of traditional theaters and cinemas. Nowadays people can watch movies, series and television shows from the comfort of their home without wasting money for travel and cinema tickets. It also enable them save their time for traveling. Moreover, people of low economic families can enjoy the experience with their loved ones even without wasting money. Platforms like NETFLIX and amazon prime videos can be enjoyed at any time. For those reason some people prefer online entertainment.
On the other hand, some prefer visiting theaters and cinemas. This may be because of the unique viewing experience that is not present in the home. Also, going to cinemas is a good way of escaping out of our daily activities and enjoying the show with our close friends. Cinemas and theaters are also economically and culturally significant. They are the source of communicating culturally values to the large audience. From an economic perspective, it serves as a basis for employment opportunities for the large number of people.
In my opinion, both are equally important for the development of any country.
To conclude, although online entertainment has become increasingly popular, theaters and cinemas will continue to have considerable value. Popularity of the online entertainment enable access of their favorite shows, whereas, theaters and cinemas helps to communicate message to the larger audience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a personal position, so the response is relevant to the task. The first body paragraph explains the convenience and lower cost of online viewing, while the second mentions the distinctive cinema experience, cultural communication and employment. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the economic and cultural claims are asserted rather than supported with a specific example, and the opinion that both are “equally important” is not explained or weighed against the two views. The conclusion repeats the main points but does not clarify why you hold this balanced position. To strengthen the response, develop each key claim with a concrete example and explain the basis for your comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a statement of opinion and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the contrast. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with several points listed rather than connected through explanation. The final paragraph also repeats ideas from the body, and “whereas” does not clearly connect the two clauses in the last sentence. Some references, such as “it” in “It also enable them,” are not fully clear. Improve cohesion by linking each supporting point to its main claim and using references and contrast markers precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “online platforms,” “unique viewing experience,” “culturally significant” and “employment opportunities.” This gives you enough range to discuss both digital entertainment and traditional venues. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make the expression less natural, such as “online access of all the entertainment,” “escaping out of our daily activities” and “communicating culturally values.” There is also repetition of “important,” “entertainment” and “cinemas and theaters.” Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, describe venues as “cultural institutions” or online services as “streaming platforms.” Check word forms and spelling conventions consistently, including the names of services.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “although online entertainment has become increasingly popular” and “while some believe…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur across the essay and sometimes make relationships between ideas less clear. Examples include the subject–verb agreement error “Advancements in technology has,” “It also enable,” and “theaters and cinemas helps.” There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “for the large number of people” and the final sentence, where “whereas” is followed by an unclear comparison. Review agreement, article use and clause structure, then proofread each sentence to ensure its subject and verb match.
