Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important because people can watch all the entertainment they want online while other believe that theatres and cinemas are still curial both economically and culturally. In my opinion theaters and cinemas are no longer important.

To begin with, today we are living digital age where majority of peoples connected with internet. Some people believe that cinemas and theatres are no longer important because majority of people use internet and social media for entertainment. In past people use theatres and cinemas to watch movies and entertainment. In present time Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and other platforms work as a digital theatres and cinemas. Many people prefer such digital platforms to watch movies, shows and documentaries. Therefore, in current time physical theatres and cinemas are no longer important. For instance, in many countries of Asia, majority of people use digital platforms for entertainment. I also agree with this opinion because digital platforms replace theatres and cinemas.

On the other hand, some people believe that theatres and cinemas are still important for both economically and culturally. No doubt, digital platforms replace cinemas and theatres but they can't replace the original taste of cinemas. Theatres and cinemas are not only the place of entertainment. Many people use cinemas and theatres for making a memory with their families. Moreover, theatres and cinemas represent the culture of a nation and also contribute economically. Therefore, also in many develop countries theatres and cinemas are still popular where thousand of people come for entertainment. In many countries film industries should earns lot of money from cinemas and theatres by promoting their content.

In conclusion, digital platforms like Netflix, Amazon and YouTube replace theatres and cinemas but they can't replace the actual taste of cinemas and theatres. Majority of people shifted to digital platforms but theatres and cinemas are still contributing economically and culturally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state your position in the introduction: “In my opinion theaters and cinemas are no longer important.” The first body paragraph explains the convenience and popularity of online platforms, while the second recognises cinemas’ cultural and economic roles. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The online argument relies mainly on the general claim that people use platforms such as Netflix and YouTube; the opposing view mentions family memories and national culture but gives little explanation or specific support. Your conclusion also says cinemas still contribute economically and culturally, which sits uneasily beside your stated view that they are no longer important. Clarify whether you mean they are less necessary, rather than unimportant, and support each side with more precise examples. The response meets the task’s length requirement; 21 words copied from the prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad direction. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first body paragraph repeats that digital platforms replace cinemas, and the final paragraph restates both sides without resolving the tension in your position. Some links are also awkward or unclear, as in “Therefore, also in many develop countries,” and “No doubt” does not clearly connect the concession to the following point. To improve, organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it, using references such as “these platforms” or “this cultural role” clearly and avoiding repeated conclusions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “digital platforms,” “documentaries,” “film industries,” and “contribute economically and culturally.” These terms allow you to discuss both online entertainment and the wider role of cinemas. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “important,” “people,” “entertainment,” and “theatres and cinemas,” and several word-choice, collocation, or spelling problems reduce precision. For example, “curial” appears to mean “crucial,” “original taste” is not a natural way to describe the cinema experience, and “making a memory” would be better expressed as “creating memories.” Aim to use more precise alternatives and check spelling and collocations. This would make your ideas clearer and less repetitive without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a concession beginning “No doubt.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but grammatical errors occur frequently and some complex constructions are not controlled. Examples include “other believe” instead of “others believe,” “we are living digital age,” and “majority of peoples connected with internet,” where articles, agreement, and sentence structure are problematic. Verb forms also need attention: “In past people use” and “film industries should earns” are inaccurate. Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and tense consistency. Shorter, accurate sentences can provide a reliable base before you add subordinate clauses and more varied structures.
