Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that individuals can watch their favourite movies and shows at home and the cinemas are no longer important. While others believe the contribution that theatres provide to the economy is very significant. I personally think there are plenty of alternate options are now available and there is no need to spend money on movie tickets.

Firstly, cinemas play an important role in the growth economy as government gets a margin from ticket sales, and that money can be used for infrastructure development. Moreover, to run a traditional theatres a well organized team in required, which directly provides employement opportunity to thousands of people, including ticket sellers, cleaners and other staff members. For instance, a single cinema requires around sixty to hundred staff members and usually payrates are very high. As a consequence, this job opportunity directly improves a person's financial life, and cinema provides a good source of income to policymakers.

On the other hand, i believe visiting cinemas are becoming less necessary because people now have access to various online platforms like netflix and amazon prime. These services allow individuals to watch their favourite movies and shows from the comfort of their home without the need of travel as well a vast variety of collection is included, and the plans worth more money. For example, in india a normal movie ticket costs around one hundred to four hundred rupees depending on resolution. Whereas, individuals can get a montly ott plan for same amount of money and with larger selection. As a result, the ott platforms provides more value of money.

In conclusion, cinemas plays a important part in economy, as they provide direct employment, but with the rise of online platform the cinemas are less preferred, beacuse platforms like netflix and amazon are most cost effective compared to tradition cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides by discussing cinemas’ economic contribution and the convenience and affordability of online platforms, and your own preference is clear: you see little need to pay for cinema tickets. The examples about cinema jobs and comparing ticket prices with an OTT subscription are relevant. However, the cultural importance named in the prompt is not discussed, so one part of the opposing view is left out. The economic argument also needs more careful development: the claim that ticket revenue supports infrastructure and the assertion that cinema pay rates are very high are not explained or supported. To strengthen the response, cover cultural value as well and develop each main claim with a clear explanation or a more convincing example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The contrast between “Firstly” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the main shift, while “For instance” and “As a result” signal examples and consequences. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by unclear links. For example, the claim that cinemas provide income to policymakers does not follow clearly from the preceding point about employment. The introduction also moves quickly from the opposing view to your opinion without clearly previewing both sides. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s central point, and make sure each supporting sentence directly explains or illustrates it. This would make the organisation more consistently logical and less dependent on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “infrastructure development,” “employment opportunity,” “online platforms,” and “cost effective.” There is also some attempt to use more specific language, such as “ticket sales” and “larger selection.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “growth economy,” “a margin from ticket sales,” and “the plans worth more money” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “employement,” “montly,” and “beacuse” are also noticeable. Aim to learn common collocations for economic and cultural arguments, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise phrasing would make your comparisons and claims easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession in “While others believe…” and a reason-result structure with “As a consequence.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence formation and agreement occur often enough to affect clarity. The opening “While others believe…” is a fragment, and “there are plenty of alternate options are now available” combines two sentence patterns incorrectly. Agreement is also inconsistent in “the OTT platforms provides” and “cinemas plays,” while articles are missing or incorrect in “a important part” and “a well organized team in required.” Practise building complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and singular/plural forms. More accurate control of these basics would make your complex sentences more effective.
