Student answer (Band 6.0)

People often agrue that theatres and movies are not that significant anymore due to the growing popularity of digital platform, while some debate that they contribute to both economic and cultural aspects.

The reason why people prefer digital platforms over traditional cinema halls and theatres is because of the wide range of flexiblity these online platforms offer such as one can access to the movies or shows anytime of their preferred genre at their comfort. It cuts down the efforts of traveling as well as it is a cheaper option since one can cheese to watch number of movies with same subscription. Moreover it saves the expenditure on snacks that are ridiculously pricey.

While on the other hand, some people choose cinema halls and theatre experience over digital platforms because they enjoy the collective celebration of hooting, hauling and whistling when their favourite actor shows up on the big screen. In addition to this, the visual and the audio effects are unbeatable by any digital platfom. For instance, wathcing "The avatar- way of water" in three dimensional experience with your loved ones is a feeling unmathced. It not only keeps the audience hooked but also gives them an opportunity to enjoy the movie to its fullest. The administration levise certain taxes on these movies and theatres are which directly contributes towards the welfare of small scale workers. In addition it helps in development of scociety

In my opinion, I strongly agree with people who argue that cinemas and theatres are important because they are crucial for cultural development in long run and adds great benefit to the economic upliftment of the society, overall it gives a dynamic experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and make your own position clear: the first body paragraph explains the convenience and lower cost of online viewing, while the next presents the shared cinema experience and economic contribution. The example of watching Avatar in 3D helps illustrate the cultural and experiential case. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that theatre taxes support small-scale workers and society’s development needs a clearer link or a specific explanation. The cultural importance is also stated mainly in the conclusion rather than developed in detail. This is a relevant response with a clear stance, but the ideas are not yet consistently extended and supported; develop the economic and cultural arguments with more precise reasoning or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate discussion of the two views, and a concluding opinion. This makes the main line of argument easy to identify. You also use signposting such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “In my opinion.” However, some connections are mechanical or awkward: “While on the other hand” combines two contrasting signals, and the long second body paragraph moves from audience reactions to audiovisual effects and then taxation without clear transitions. The final sentence also joins several claims together, making the conclusion less controlled. Use clearer paragraph development and link each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea; this would make the progression more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “digital platforms,” “collective celebration,” “visual and audio effects,” and “economic upliftment.” These choices show an attempt to discuss both practical and cultural aspects of entertainment. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “agrue,” “flexiblity,” “platfom,” “wathcing,” and “unmathced.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “cheese to watch,” “levise certain taxes,” and “development of scociety.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main argument, but they make parts of the response less fluent and occasionally require interpretation. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “choose to watch,” “impose taxes,” and “contribute to society’s development.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including explanations with “because,” examples introduced by “For instance,” and a relative clause in “when their favourite actor shows up.” The main meaning is generally clear. However, some sentence structures and agreement patterns are inaccurate. For example, “one can access to the movies” uses an incorrect verb pattern, and “it gives a dynamic experience” does not agree with the plural subject “cinemas and theatres” in the conclusion. The sentence beginning “In addition to this” runs several ideas together, and punctuation is missing around the example and before “For instance.” Aim for more controlled sentence boundaries, check subject–verb agreement, and review verb patterns such as “access something” rather than “access to something.”
