Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different opinions about whether theaters and cinemas are essential after technological advancement or they should be closed as everyone can watch anything online, While both perspectives have their own merits, I believe that theaters and cinemas are beneficial both financially and culturally . This essay will discuss both viewpoints before explaining my position.

On the one hand, some people argue that cinemas and theaters no longer needed in digital era. The main reason for this is that everything now is digital and people can watch anything and anytime online without moving out of their comfort places. Furthermore, Smartphones, Ipad and Computers make everybody life easy as it have been their source of entertainment. For example, streaming websites such as Netflix is significantly popular among people as it provide every kind of entertainment in the form of movies, television dramas and seasons. Consequently, supporters of

this view believe that watching online has more worth than in physical venues.

On the other hand, others believe that cinemas and theaters are important despite of digital world. One major advantage of this approach is that it represents their culture . For instance, theater art, classical dance and poetry reflect their true cultural values. I find this argument more convincing because its economically more convenient than streaming website. Therefore, physical venues are more beneficial in term of financial situation.

In conclusion, although in digital era, digital technology has more benefits in term of entertainment yet I believe that visiting cinemas and theaters physically is more important in term of cultural values and is more beneficial because it roots you to your culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for the cultural and economic value of physical venues. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons for online entertainment, including convenience and streaming services, while the second refers to cultural forms such as classical dance and poetry. However, the discussion is uneven and some claims are not sufficiently explained. In particular, the economic argument is unclear: you say venues are “more economically convenient than streaming website,” but do not explain how they benefit the economy or compare costs. The conclusion also repeats your position rather than drawing together the two sides. Develop each viewpoint with a specific explanation or example, and clarify how theatres and cinemas contribute economically as well as culturally.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the overall direction. However, progression within the second body paragraph is less clear: the cultural example is followed by an economic claim without a connecting explanation, and “I find this argument more convincing” has an unclear reference. Some linking is mechanical, with repeated use of “Furthermore,” “For example,” and “Therefore.” Build clearer links between each reason and its supporting detail, and use pronouns or transitions only when their references are unmistakable. This would make the argument flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “digital era,” “source of entertainment,” “streaming websites,” and “cultural values,” which allows you to discuss both sides of the question. There is also some attempt to use more formal phrasing, such as “represents their culture.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “comfort places,” “watch anything and anytime,” and “more worth than in physical venues.” Repetition of “important,” “beneficial,” and “entertainment” also reduces precision. Aim for more natural combinations and more specific terms—for example, distinguish between convenience, affordability, employment, and cultural preservation rather than relying on broad claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “because,” and “although,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors occur across sentence structures and agreement, and some sentences are difficult to process. For example, “cinemas and theaters no longer needed” is missing a verb, while “it have been their source” has an agreement error. The opening sentence also joins contrasting clauses with a comma, and the final sentence has an awkward “although … yet” construction. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then check that each complex sentence has a clear main clause. More accurate control of these structures would make your reasoning easier to follow.
