Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response is completely off-topic. The prompt requires summarising a diagram about the formation of a rain-shadow desert, but the student has instead written about library staff percentages, undergraduate demographics, and user satisfaction percentages. Because the text fails to address any part of the actual task prompt and discusses an entirely irrelevant topic, it achieves a very low rating for task achievement. There is no attempt to report the main features of the provided process diagram, resulting in a minimal and completely inappropriate response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0

The text lacks any logical organization or progression relevant to the prompt. Information is presented as a random collection of statistics about a library rather than a coherent description of a geographical process. Paragraphing is chaotic, with abrupt shifts from staff percentages to user satisfaction figures without appropriate cohesive devices or transitions. While some basic conjunctions and cohesive markers appear, they are used inadequately to link the disparate ideas, making the overall arrangement difficult to follow and lacking a clear central theme.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily focused on numbers, percentages, and simple nouns related to an entirely different topic (e.g., 'academic staff', 'undergraduates', 'library', 'satisfaction', 'journals'). There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'oppening' instead of 'opening' and 'availablity' instead of 'availability'. The student attempts some subject-specific vocabulary, but the range is limited and inadequate for a proper academic task response, though it communicates simple statistical values clearly enough at a basic level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty declarative sentences (e.g., 'Full-time undergraduates are 44%', 'Where these all people like all the staff...'). There are frequent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as missing full stops, run-on sentences, and incorrect article usage (e.g., 'the Part-time undergraduates', 'the availablity'). While the meaning of the individual statistical statements can generally be understood, the high frequency of grammatical slips and awkward phrasing restricts the score.
