All university undergraduate courses should include a period of time spent studying abroad or doing a work placement.

Student answer (Band 4.0)

It is often argued that higher education level institutions should introduce some summesters for study abroad or give them interships across worldwide in relevant feilds. I strongly agree with this view because this will opens-up mindsets of students about worldwide job marketes. Support this stance, it builds global cultural awareness and it increases job readiness after graduation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You state a clear position—“I strongly agree”—and identify two relevant advantages: greater cultural awareness and improved job readiness. However, the response addresses the question only minimally because neither advantage is explained in enough detail, and there is no discussion of possible disadvantages or why the benefits outweigh them. The first supporting paragraph begins to introduce what students may experience abroad, but it ends mid-sentence (“the first thing they g”), so the reasoning and any example are missing. The response also falls substantially short of the required 250 words, leaving the argument incomplete. To improve, develop both benefits with specific explanations or examples, acknowledge a disadvantage, and explicitly compare the two sides before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The opening gives the reader a basic direction: you agree and preview cultural awareness and job readiness. The transition “First and foremost” also signals the start of a supporting point. However, the response is too incomplete to show a clear progression across the argument: the first body paragraph stops abruptly, and the second promised benefit is not developed. The phrase “Support this stance” does not clearly connect the reasons to your position, and there is no conclusion to bring the discussion together. Build a complete paragraph for each main idea, use clear links between explanation and example, and finish with a brief summary that directly answers whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cultural awareness,” “job readiness,” and “relevant fields,” which helps communicate the intended subject. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations make parts of the opening difficult to understand, such as “summesters,” “interships across worldwide,” and “job marketes.” “Worldwide” is also repeated where a more precise expression would be clearer. These issues limit the accuracy and flexibility of the vocabulary in this short response. Check spelling carefully and learn common academic collocations for education and employment. For example, you could refer to “study-abroad semesters,” “international internships,” and “the global job market.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both a complex opening sentence and a reason clause beginning “because,” showing some effort to vary sentence structure. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. In “this will opens-up,” the modal “will” should be followed by the base verb; in “when students lands,” the verb does not agree with its plural subject. “This due to the fact” is missing a verb, and the final sentence is incomplete, which prevents the reader from following the intended point. The sentence patterns are also limited in the available text. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modals, and complete clauses, then use a wider mix of accurate simple and complex sentences.
